What a gift Donna Henry is to the music community of Knoxville! The most highly rated piano and voice teacher in the area and conveniently located in Hardin Valley. Best value in music lessons for all ages! She has a few spots available and teaches through the summer! Reserve a spot for yourself or your children on her schedule while you can!

I am so glad I decided to take piano lessons from Donna! She was able to quickly assess my abilities from childhood lessons and previous musical experience and get me started playing right away. I am playing music I love while learning solid technique and practice strategies that make me feel like I am really progressing. I highly recommend Master’s Music!

My son and daughter both took piano lessons with Donna. They enjoyed learning with her, and I was pleased with the content and quality of musical education Donna provided. My son is a rambunctious 6 year old who sometimes has a hard time sitting still and concentrating. Donna was patient and kind with him. She used different strategies to help him learn and added action and hands-on activity to make the lesson something that fit him and his learning style. She also helped to provide strategies for me to use at home to make our practice time more effective and fun. He has told me what a good teacher she was and how kind and patient she was with him. She made a memorable and positive impact on him. My daughter also took general music lessons with Donna, and she loved them! The variety of activities, games, and songs were fun and engaging and made the class so enjoyable, as well as educational. We would still be taking classes with her if she was still in our area.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Introductory lesson to get to know a student, their parent, if applicable, their goals and desires, and if they are a transfer student to hear what they have done.  Questions are answered, studio policies and registration info reviewed, and students have the chance to get on my ongoing schedule to reserve their time slot once they register.  Fee schedule is shared and prepayment is necessary to reserve a weekly time slot. Flexible week to week lessons and scheduling are available for busy adults.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

masters level education in music education, vocal performance and pedagogy, and piano performance and pedagogy, choral music education, and theatre arts. More than 20 yrs of professional development.  Membership with NATS and MTNA.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$30 per 30 Min lesson or $60 an hour.  Semester based students receive a free master class and recital each semester included. Discounts are offered for multiple family members, military, seniors, and for classes. Competitions have additional fees per the competition sponsor.

How did you get started teaching?

I was inspired by my chorus teacher and my voice teacher along with my love of singing since a child. I sang as a young person and was doing weekly concerts by the time I was in highsvhool thru my young adult years.  I’ve enjoyed teaching singers in public school for many years and in my home studio of all ages.  My voice teacher mentor in my university days was a great influence on me and a great role model loved by many students.  I fount it a privledge to inspire others to fulfill their love of singing!

What types of students have you worked with?

I teach all ages 4 to 75 and all abilities and levels including special needs.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Have an introductory lesson first to make sure it’s a good match.  Look for a teacher with a music degree and specialized training in teaching.  Not all performers can teach.
