Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I enjoy finding out what my students can already do naturally. I spend the first 10 minutes just hitting a few standardized drills live to access the strengths of my players. I then go over a game plan for learning tennis based on each student's individual gifts for tennis.
EVERYONE HAS SOMETHING THEY ARE GOOD AT NATURALLY IN TENNIS!
I find that one or two special thing about each one of my students and we bring them to life in a fun and fantastic way to enjoy playing and winning in tennis.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have played and competed at every level of tennis from amateur to professional. I have coached at every level of tennis from amateur and small children starting with ages 4yrs old to adult professional players. I have been a certified professional tennis instructor since the age of 19 years old. I was one of the youngest ever certified professionals for coaching in the state of Tennessee. I have been hired by most of the major brands of resorts and hotels nationally as well as work internationally on islands in the Caribbean and Jamaica.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My fee for coaching / Private Lessons varies per region. I always offer a discounted lesson for packages of several lessons to reward my students for being loyal and staying with me as a coach. Time permitting, I would offer anyone 15 minutes of my time for free to see if working with me is something that will work out for them.
How did you get started teaching?
I have been an athlete my entire life as long as I can remember. I've participated in several sports including Pole vaulting, track, martial arts, football, baseball, and weight training just to name a few. I fell in love with tennis because of its beauty and one on one combat which requires mental and physical abilities. I became a teacher because I was not able to be as successful as a player as I wanted to be. My thirst for this Sport was not quenched in competition, so I still have a strong desire to compete and be the best coach in the world.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with every student of every age, every ability, and even Students with learning disabilities and physical disabilities.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently began teaching during the main tennis season in the Newport Rhode Island area and now I have concluded a schedule that puts me annually on each coast and spending time in my beloved Nashville TN.
I also have facilities in San Diego and I homebase in San Diego for several months of the year.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a teacher that is happy and encouraging and excited about the sport of tennis and teaching people of all ages and abilities. I do not recommend teachers who only wants to work with kids who already have skills.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
The most important question you want to ask your teacher before you begin taking lessons is ;
"what has been your experience in tennis and how do you feel about the sport of tennis today in your life?"
interview every potential coach in anything that you are ever interested in doing. You want to know if that person still has a passion and that you have common ground and can relate to each other.
