Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Students are assigned to classes according to their age group in most cases. Then individual needs of each student are assessed and addressed in class.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a former professional ballerina, have received my education in the best professional colleges of Choreography in Perm, Russia and in Naku, Azerbaijan that use famous Russian Vaganova method for ballet education. After graduation danced for 6 years as a soloist at Moscow Chambee Ballet "Moskva", then was invited to work as a soloist at Ballet Arlington in Arlington, TX.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
The pricing starts at $65 per month for one 45 min lesson each week. When students take more classes there is a duscount for each additional class taken.
How did you get started teaching?
I have started teaching privately right after I graduated when I was 19 and gave been teaching since. Have my own studio since 2007. Since that time have prepared many students who won top prizes at the most prestigious international Ballet Competition for young dancers Youth America Grand Prix. Take a look at my Instagram profile at Almayeva_Ballet
What types of students have you worked with?
Any students with or without prior training, age 3 to 25
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Our annual Nutcracker production last December was a great success again which makes me proud of my work and of the work of my students.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look at the potential teacher's credentials, experience, record at serious ballet competitions, such as YAGP. Most importantly, if you are looking for Vaganova style professional ballet training, you need to understand that in the US there is no formal educational institution that provides such training. If there is a teacher educated in the US and claiming to be a Vaganova style expert, it is simply not true. Vaganova training that I have had is a formal 8 years program with rigorous system (about 6 hours of dance disciplines daily) which all colleges of choreography in Russia adhere to.
