About

"Personally, my first love is music, so I do what I enjoy. Professionally, I believe that playing an instrument is important for balancing creativity with purely mental work, and it has become crucial in this technological environment in which we live. My one goal is to convey to & inspire each student how they can always have enriching experiences in music/playing, if they dedicate themselves to the ideal of learning."

Pamela Washburn is a professional 'cellist with extensive experience in the performance of symphonic, chamber music and solo 'cello repertoire. The 'cello journey begins by creating a strong foundation in beginners, and revising the technique of existing 'cellists, leading each into the beauty of the major repertoire which has been gifted to us by the great composers.

Ms. Washburn brings 40+ years of experience to her private ‘cello teaching, both in Dallas and Albuquerque. Since her return to the Dallas area, a number of her students have won positions in the middle school and high school Texas All Region Orchestras, and in Texas Allstate Orchestras.

Her training led to the Bachelor of Music program at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati on a full scholarship, with studies under the LaSalle Quartet. Additional master teachers were the Juilliard Quartet and Laszlo Varga. Several years were then spent with the now late artist teacher Lev Aronson.

Ms. Washburn's orchestra career includes being a member of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, a temporary full time position with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the principal ‘cello position of the Fort Worth Opera Orchestra, and principal cello of the Dallas Opera Orchestra Spring seasons, followed by being a member of the Dallas Opera Orchestra for over ten years.

After moving to Albuquerque in 1995, she won a position in the Santa Fe Symphony. Pamela maintained a full studio of students throughout the years of her residence in New Mexico, and in returning to the Dallas area, is focusing much of her time on teaching.

Chamber music has been a constant presence in her life, from early childhood, through being the cellist in multiple ensembles. She is also a member of Texas Music Educators Association.

The studio is easily accessible to Plano, far north Dallas, Carrollton, Richardson, and surrounding areas. Her teaching has become one of the most rewarding aspects of life. Let's talk and start the music journey for you or your child!

    Frequently asked questions

I teach traditional classical music, working on strong basics. However, each student learns differently, so I progress at a rate that they can absorb.

Prior to college, Ms. Washburn studied with Daniel Lynch, then assistant principal cello of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Along with technique, and a broad repertoire, he enhanced and developed her inspiration and love of music. The Bachelor of Music program at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati was then pursued on a full scholarship, with studies under the LaSalle Quartet. Additional master teachers were the Juilliard Quartet and Laszlo Varga. Several years were then spent with the now late artist teacher Lev Aronson.

I offer 45 minutes for children beginners, 60 minutes for intermediate and advanced students. Please contact for fees.

I love working with people, so along with a strong emphasis on performance, I started teaching while still in college.
All ages, all nationalities. And those with different rates of learning.
Always be sure that the teacher/student's working relationship is harmonious, and if so, stay with that teacher.
