About
Seeing the excitement of a young person that accomplished anything they want to accomplish is amazing. Instead of focusing on music theory solely, I incorporate smaller, more easily attainable goals to keep a student excited about learning about music.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Finding out the goals of a student is the key to how I approach their lessons.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started taking private drumset lessons in 1981, and my teachers include Lucy Flohr, Randy Drake, Ed Smith, and Henry Okstel (UNT). From 1992 until now I've done extensive touring with bands, recording, writing, and teaching.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$45/hr
$35/half hr
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching classmates in about 7th grade and had students until I finished college. After that I was more focused on playing live and touring so I didn't teach much until about 12 years ago when I started teaching at Music & Arts. I also taught at The Sound Foundation for about a year, but the majority of my lessons are at my studio or via webcam.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've taught all ages, from 5 to 71....boys, girls, men, and women. My first teacher was a female, and I find that my female students like that fact.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Know what you want to get out of playing. Is there anything specific that inspired you to want to play? Look for a teacher that has experience with different genres, styles of teaching, and an extensive musical background....Like me!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do you want to do? Play your favorite songs, play in a band, learn to read and write music, record music, or just play for fun....
