NT Studios & Conservatory
About
For over 30 years, I have enjoyed a career as Arts Educator and Arts Entrepreneur, which includes independent production. The beauty of it, is that the two intersect. I am able to provide young artists, emerging artists, and established professionals with real world experience. They get to experience, with immediacy, the carry-over of nurturing, training, and development from the classroom into practice. They do not have to wait to find that experience. It is the natural course of things at NT Studios.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first objective with a new student is to determine the student's level of skill, where his/her talents lie, their strengths and weaknesses, and in that process get a sense of who they are, their voice, their personality. Upon first encounter with an Acting student, I will have the student demontrate his/her level of talent and skill by presenting a prepared monologue, cold reading, and engaging in improvs. Students may also bring reels that we view and discuss together. Writing clients complete writing assignments using prompts I provide. Samples of writing may be submitted prior to the first appointment. This gives me a sense not only of his/her strengths and weakness, talent and skill level, but present range, stamina, and personal voice/style/presence. Dance students seeking a group session are typically pretty clear on their level of development and are placed accordingly; dancers seeking one on one coaching will come prepared to demonstrate their present stage of development and discuss the objective of the coaching session(s).

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Standard rates begin at $50/ hr. for one on one coaching and may reduce to a minimum of $30/hr for group sessions, depending on number of artists enrolled.
Acting students sometimes opt for exchange of services if I am in production and there is a role I feel confident casting them in; they may be cast with no compensation in exchange for experiential training, under my direction.
Rates for Writing Instruction and Consultation begin at $50/hr. Rates will vary depending on extent of additional services requested/required such as editing and revision.
How did you get started teaching?
I majored in English and Theatre Education while in college under the direction of my father who insisted that I "have something to fall back on in case this theatre thing didn't work out." I discovered that I enjoyed working with students who had a love for acting, dancing, or writing. I began developing a Summer Youth Program through which I trained students in the Performing Arts with Reading & Writing Enrichment.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with individuals and groups from Elementary School level to High School students preparing for auditions or competitions, and those in need of assistance with writing essays and term papers and other written works. I have worked with College students seeking to gain greater preparation for working in the real world, as well as those needing assistance with Research Papers, Literary Reviews, MLA and APA formatting, and Written Discussions. I have worked with professional actors and hobbyists seeking to increase in skill and craft.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent event I am most fond of was the performance and critique of my original play, Personifications, at the TETA (Texas Educational Theatre Association) TheatreFest PlayFest. Not only was the writing lauded by the panel of Theatre Critics, so were the performances of the cast, two of which are my students.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think about why they feel the need for private lessons, why private over group lessons, what they hope to achieve from the class, and what their long term objectives are.
