About
SERIOUS STUDENTS ONLY. It doesn't matter what genre or style of music you sing. I offer the highest quality voice lessons and teach students to sing with healthy vocal technique with a clearer understanding of how anatomy, physiology, and the psyche is utilized as the body sings. Students will build repertoire and study the history of songs and their composers to better understand how to sing a story. Together, we will explore and refine your authentic voice.
I am passionate about my work. I began singing as a very young child. As a professional singer and music educator, it is an honor to prepare new, emerging and experienced artists to perform in this incredible field. There is little more important to me than sharing the gift of song with the world.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Introductory meeting includes a discussion about the students goals and wants as well as setting goals for the future. I share information about vocal anatomy and how the voice works and provide the student with a daily exercise regiment. As they learn how the body sings, I guide them to healthy alignment, breathing and vocal production. We begin to learn song repertoire within the third - sixth lesson (depending on the beginning level and other factors)
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance. Over 25 years of teaching experience. Collegiate vocal teaching since 2003. Private studio instructor since 1995. International performer of opera, art song, spirituals, jazz, gospel and other styles.

How did you get started teaching?
I began teaching in the public schools of Connecticut. After honing my skills further I started teaching private voice lessons with select students and for local arts programs. As my students excelled, more students came. In 2015 I accepted a Visiting Instructor position at Texas Southern University and relocated to Houston. I also taught Applied Voice at Prairie View. As I continue to perform internationally as Rocke Vocal Studios expands.
What types of students have you worked with?
Elementary, middle school, high school, college, working professionals, church musicians, award winning recording artists, and seniors rediscovering their love of singing. I also work with students with special needs.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Dy'Jah, a gospel artist who has studied voice with me for three years was named a 2020 Stellar Award Nominee for Youth Project of the Year.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be sure you know whether you want to work with a vocal coach or a voice teacher. A coach focuses on performance skill, while a voice teacher focuses on developing a healthy technical approach to singing.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why do you want to take voice lessons?
What areas of your voice do you want to improve?
How can a voice teacher take you to the next level?
