About

Lights, Camera, Act! is a small acting school run by Houston based actor and acting coach, Alyssia Dodson (Alyssia Dujmovich on IMDB). With over 25 years in the business (both in front of and behind the camera) and 13+ years teaching, Alyssia has coached many students along their journey to having successful working acting careers in addition to being a working actress herself.

Most recently, she has worked with and taped actors for some exciting projects. She is fast becoming the go-to taping coach in Houston for professional actors and comedians who pass through town, having recently worked with Daniel Francese (Mean Girls, War of the Worlds), her longtime student- Allie (Alexandria) DeBerry (Ant Farm, The Act, The Legend of 5 Mile Cave, Shake It Up, Hart of Dixie), Lidia Porto (This Is Us, Get Shorty, Will and Grace, Curb Your Enthusiasm), and more!

In addition, her longtime student had a role in the Academy Award winning film, Green Book, and another was a regular cast member on ABC's Splitting Up Together with Jenna Fischer and Oliver Hudson. Another student had a recurring role on AMC's Preacher in the last season as well, so there are some wonderful opportunities for actors, no matter where you are based!

She holds acting workshops, classes, private lessons, and audition tapings regularly at her studio, but unlike many acting coaches, she can also travel and bring her studio to you! Working with actors in their homes, while still being able to set up a small studio (for a professional look when taping auditions), has been an exciting way for students to feel more relaxed and comfortable in their own familiar environment. Leave the stress if travelling through Houston's many traffic filled freeways to her. It is also much more convenient when trying to juggle appointments for your other children and yourself, that the coach can come straight to you and produce an audition tape or class that is equally as professional, structured, and effective (maybe even more so due to the decreased anxiety that can weigh on parents and students when travelling to someone's studio) as it would be if you went to the actual studio. Visit her website or send a text, email, or phone call today to get more information on rates, workshop and summer camp dates, background info on Alyssia, special resources for parents and students, and more!

I love working with actors in large part because I have been acting myself for many years. And I like being able to help other actors to reach their goals. It is so joyful to share in the excitement they feel when they've booked a role and on the other side of it, I know how to encourage actors to keep at even when the rejection of the business can be frustrating. I love seeing my students have those lightbulb moments when something really clicks. Being an acting coach has helped me to become a better actor, but above all else, it is a way that I can use my expertise to connect with people and help them to fulfill their dreams which feeds my heart and soul. Acting is very intimate work in that you have to be willing to let your guard down and let the world see sides of you that may have previously been hidden. So it is important to be able to build a bond and trust, and I hope that I'm able to create a safe space for my actors to be themselves and share of themselves emotionally so that they can reach their full potential.

Alyssia is so personable! She and my 11 year old son just clicked right away. She has lots of industry experience and has been through extensive training of her own. She is a pleasure to work with.
