North Texas Traditional Dance Society
About
We provide dances open to the public on Saturday nights. We do two forms of dance: Contra in Carrollton on 3rd Saturdays, and English Country in Dallas on 2nd Saturdays, always to live music. The dancing is somewhat similar to square dancing, but in a formation of long lines instead of squares, so you dance with a lot more people. We walk through each dance before doing it to the music, so no experience is needed. We encourage people to change partners every dance, so you don't need to come with a partner. It is a lot of fun and good exercise also.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We have a beginner's session before the dancing starts, and we walk through each dance before doing it to the music.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our callers have many years of experience.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Non-members pay $10 for each evening of dances (3 hours).
How did you get started teaching?
Dancing started in 1983 when someone who knew contra dancing added dancing to meetings of the Lone Star State Dulcimer Society. The dancing took a life of its own, and NTTDS was chartered in 1986. We've been dancing ever since.
What types of students have you worked with?
Everyone, young and old.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Just come to a dance prepared to move a lot and have fun. Wear comfortable casual clothes.
