About

I teach one on one personalized lessons designed to help with what the student is wanting to learn/accomplish in art. I attended Pratt Institute for art (painting specfically) and also attended the Maryland Institute College of Art for a pre-college program while I was in high school. I love helping people develop the technical skills that they need to truly know how to express themselves in the arts. I have been a professional instructor for over a decade, with an emphasis on ballroom dancing. I have taught art for 13 years as well. I have taught as young as 6 and as old as 70+. I have taught various levels and abilities throughout my instruction in the arts. My services are focused around understanding what you are learning so that you can grow beyond personal instruction. I help students to think for themselves and develop in ways that are best suited for them. Instruction is not a one size fits all, but instead personally tailored to the student's needs. My specialties are portrait and figure drawing, color theory, design, and oil painting.

I’ve worked with Bethany over the last few months. It’s been amazing to see my skills progress from where I started. She was quick to adapt to what my creative goals were anytime I wanted to work on a new skill. Super friendly and professional!

Bethany was terrific! She knows her subject matter well. She makes the learning fun.Well organized, travels to the student. She designed the class to my needs. She makes sure that a concept is understood before moving on to the next. If a concept is not initially grasped shell try several approaches until the light bulb goes on. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for art lesson whether its just the basics (like me) or more complex concepts. And ask to see some of her works as an artist---very impressive!!

Bethany is very adaptable and understanding of my needs and differences. Her prices are very fair and she’s teaching me how to paint at a beginners level and is very helpful, patient, and kind. I cannot wait to continue my weekly lessons.

    Frequently asked questions

For the first lesson, I like to see how the student already approaches drawing/painting and what their skill level is. I ask them a lot of questions to get to know what they want out of art lessons so that I can help them the best. Depending on where their skill level already is, we go from there. I teach them the basics of drawing and design, color theory, line work, and proportions/perspective. We work on projects that they would like and I encourage them to think critically about what they are doing on the paper.

I charge $75/hour for personalized art lessons.

I started teaching art when I was in high school with kids of a family friend. While in college, I taught art to high schoolers who were serious about art and putting together portfolios for college. I also taught some older adults who had done art when they were much younger. After college, I have taught kids and adults how to draw and paint. I also have an extensive background with teaching dance to all ages and skill levels. My personalized, one on one, teaching in dance has helped with many skills in teaching art. I am able to meet the student where they are at, know where they want to go, and take them there in a fun and interesting way that is catered to them.

I have worked with students aged 7 to over 60, and all skill levels.

I was a Texas State Finalist in the Doodle 4 Google compeition when I was 15. I got the highest scholarships to all of the art colleges that I applied for. My work was recently featured in the Frisco Art Gallery.

My advice is to know what you want out of lessons and find a teacher that best fits that. Or, try out multiple teachers and find one that you think understands you and can take you where to want to go the best. All artists are different and I think there's nothing worse than a teacher trying to force a style onto a student or one who doesn't let them explore their own interests in art.

What is my current skill level? Why do I want to draw/paint? What kinds of things do I want to draw/paint? Do I have a practical reason for wanting to get better at art or do I want to get better for more emotional reasons? What mediums do I want to experiment with? How much am I willing to practice art? Am I serious about wanting to get better or is it more just for fun?
