Lissa Bengtson
About
I specialize in instructing groups in traditional forms of dance such as contra, barn dance, longways sets, English Country Dance and International Folk Dance. I also teach line dancing, using not only Country-Western music but also Latin, Big Band, R & B and pop tunes.
It's wonderful to keep moving, expressing myself through dance. It's also terrific to share the dances of our heritage and of our various cultures.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I choose easy dances that have interesting music.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Many years of recreational dance. Currently I teach 7-8 classes per week, including international folk dance, line dancing, Silver Sneakers and Dance for Parkinson's.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Dance instruction for a wedding, birthday party, or other one-time event starts at $100 for myself, more if you need a live band. If the event is serving alcohol, the starting price doubles.
How did you get started teaching?
Everywhere I've lived has had a folk dance and/or contra group. If I knew some great dances that the current group didn't know, I would teach them.
What types of students have you worked with?
Two-year-old children through senior citizens.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently enjoyed leading a Civil-War themed dance for a birthday party in New Braunfels. In Helotes I lead line dancing during a birthday party, and in Leon Springs I led about 150 youth through an hour of traditional dance. Everyone was terrific!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Nah, just blurt it out. I know lots of people who do all kinds of dancing. I might be able to refer you to someone else, or adjust what we're doing so that you are happier.
