Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Lessons are customized to the personal needs of every student. The first lesson usually consists of proper stick holding technique, simple snare rudiments, and a basic drum beat. After the first lesson, a personal lesson plan is constructed for the student. The goal is to emphasize the students strengths while improving all aspects of their playing.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 14 years playing experience in multiple percussion instruments. I have played with various bands and orchestras, including the American West Symphony Orchestra, Utah State University Jazz Ensemble, Utah State University Percussion Ensemble, and my personal band, Head Portals. I currently work at The MusicMaster™ Development Group, teaching all ages how to read musical notation and apply it.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing is $50 for four 30 minute lessons and $100 for four 1 hour lessons. You can also pay by the lesson if you're just looking to try it out for a few lessons.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
More expensive is not always better. Look for someone who emphasizes creativity. The best teachers are the ones who let you learn without suffocating you with information.
