Paul Kiernan
About
I have 35 years of experience as an actor, writer, and director. I have a masters degree and have worked on stage, film, TV, radio, Voice over, Disney and all manner of venue that actors, working actors, need to be able to conquer. No lies, I'm not going to give you the study with me and you'll get the role bullshit. No one can guarantee that in this business. I will give you practical, usable, reproducible tools that will make you a better, smarter, more focused actor. No mystery, just tools to be better.

I'm serious about this work, I am passionate about helping people get better and truly understand and appreciate the craft. If you're looking to be a better actor, be more confident in the audition, want to make better, stronger, more active choices when you're in rehearsal, then we should work together. If you wan audition prep, I can help with that as well. But, think about the long run, being in more control always. I see my work with actors as making myself unnecessary. I give you the tools to do this on your own.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We talk about where they are, what they've done and where they want to get to. We talk and I listen. I listen a lot. Then I decide where they are the process, what they need and we go from there. if it's for an audition, we work the material. if it's a long term class, we start with absolute basics and move from there. I also encourage my students to journal, ask questions, set goals and read, read plays, books, always be reading.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
MFA in acting and directing from Brandies University in Boston. Ten years as a performer/writer/director for Walt Disney World, Co. 35 years as an actor, writer, director. Stage, film, TV, and voice over. An acting teacher at Brandeis, University of Utah, BYU, Salem State College and private classes.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I know that actors don't have a ton of money and I don't do this to make a ton of money. I know that if it were free, no one would take it seriously. I am open to payment and I work within $50-150/hour. for private sessions. If we were to put a class together, a group, I would do ten weeks and charge for the room rental and a little more. So, $150/person for a 10-week class. don't be fooled by how cheap this is like I said, I want to help actors that are passionate and I know we don't have a lot of money to spend but, we need to keep working on our craft.
How did you get started teaching?
I started in Graduate school. I started because I love teaching, i have a knack for it and I want the art to be better.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types. New, working actors, people who want to explore the art. If you have a drive, a desire, an interest, I am willing to work with you.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Know what you want. Know what you want to get from the class. Especially with acting, stay grounded and have realistic goals. If you see a teacher who says they will guarantee you'll get cast after you take a class with them, sue them when you don't get cast. Be careful of people who sue an acting class to prey on others. Be careful of acting teachers who say their way ins the only way. I approach acting a way that works for me and for those I have taught. Not everyone. not everyone works well with every teacher, make sure there is a connection to the approach to work before you lay down your money. Be clear with what you want.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do you want?
How do you get there?
