About
I have a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from University of Texas at Austin. I have performed in solo, orchestral and chamber music concerts throughout the US, Europe and Asia. I was an assistant professor of piano and music theory at Hanseo University in Korea and have taught privately in the US since 2003.
I teach students of all ages and levels at my studio in Vienna, Virginia. I have a beautiful Steinway grand piano in my studio, which students can enjoy. I tailor my lessons according to each student's goals and interests. My lessons are fun and I try to motivate my students by exposing them to different aspects of music, such as music theory and history. I also emphasize reading music, so that the students eventually become independent and playing music could be life long pursuit and enjoyment for them.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I have an interview with a prospective student/parents and try to find out what their goals and interests are. I ask how much time the student can invest in each week in practicing. I figure out the level and aptitude of the student and decide on what kind of method books, exercises and repertoire we would be working on. In most cases, I require weekly lessons.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from University of Texas at Austin. I also have a Master of Music degree in music theory.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My lesson fees are $70 for a 60 minute lesson and $60 for a 45 minute lesson. The fees are due at the first lesson of each month for the entire month. In most months, there are 4 lessons, but in some months there are 5 lessons.
