About
After training classically for 10 years, I continued a self study program in the anatomy of the singing voice for an additional 5. I have taught since 1985, was voice coach for the MD Renaissance Festival in the mid-late 80's, sung for the Voice of America and National Geographic Explorer Specials. As lead singer of the pan Celtic band, IONA since 1986, I have sung across the US and toured throughout the British Isles.
I introduce students to their vocal instrument - a very different instrument from the speaking entity. Through diaphragmatic breathing - dropped larynx technique, we learn ear training, the use of the head voice and ultimately mask manipulation for projection and tone control. As a touring, professional singer approaching 70, I practice what I teach every day. I have missed a concert only once in my career due to pneumonia. Without the techniques I teach, I could never have made this claim.
