Jason M. says, "Rick is not your typical trainer. He emphasizes correct form all the time, proper breathing in the exercise, and makes sure I feel safe doing his whole body routines. He definitely has passion and confidence in what he knows and shares this freely. His gym is small, but it surprisingly is set up for everything a big gym has. Rick has been consistent the past 3 months with good workouts, follow up evals, listening to my ideas, and always making sure I understand the exercise and that I'm doing them correctly. I highly recommend Whole Body Fitness by Rick. " Read more

I've been performing in the Greater Columbus area for over 20 years; from Classical to Jazz to Irish Fiddle. I have performed with several local Irish groups and have performed at the Dublin Irish Festival for the last 15 years. I offer Violin and Viola lessons as well as Ear Training. Instrumental lessons can be a traditional focus, or focus on fiddle or improv styles. The goal is to provide students with the musical instruction they need, not just the instruction they'll pay for....

I've been teaching privately for over 15 years. I take students of all ages and skill levels. I focus on getting my students to play familiar songs and also teach them to read music. I cover folk, rock, classical and more. Over the years, I have developed my own method that I tailor to each individual person I work with. Nothing makes me happier than helping people meet their musical goals :-)

I've been an active performer/educator in the Columbus area for years. I am currently the Violin Instructir at Capital University, and perform regularly with Columbus Symphony as well as various other organizations. Along with traditional classical training, I have experience in different styles of music including jazz, rock, pop, fiddle/country, and on. I regularly am the violinist for the CAPA Broadway series. I love to teach and feel that it goes hand in hand with being a great performer. I work with all ages and skill level, and like to understand the students goals in studying so I can tailor-make a guided course for study. I have 2 cats...

Learning to play an instrument involves practicing. Wow, what a stupid sounding statement. Practicing is only marginally profitable unless you know “how” to practice. I could tell you right here, in a few words, how to practice and you might say, “ Well, of course, anyone would know that.” The problem is, knowing and doing it two different things. I like to ask a new player, “What are you hoping to song or melody are you hoping to learn to play?” For me, this way of learning an instrument is a lot more fun than playing scales and arpeggios for years, in hopes to someday being able I to play some of the stuff really want. How much does a kid's violin cost?

A kid's violin costs $50 to $400 minimum for the smallest sizes. Renting a child's first violin saves money while your child decides if the violin is something they want to keep learning or not. Music stores often rent violins for $25 to $50 per month.

How early can kids play the violin?

Kids can start playing the violin when they're between 4 to 7 years old, depending on if they can focus on the lesson for 30 minutes. You should wait until your child has the physical skills needed for violin lessons, like finger strength and flexibility.

How many violin lessons does a kid need?

How many violin lessons a kid needs depends on their natural abilities and experience with music, how often they practice, and what they want to achieve. Most children need to take violin classes regularly for many months before they can play a simple song or read music.

For example, consider these average learning timelines:

  • After about 3 to 6 years, you'll be able to play many different songs quite well.
  • If you want to play like a professional, it often takes more than 10 years of practice.

Can kids learn violin online?

Kids can learn violin online with private lessons that cost $40 to $70 per hour. These live video-chat sessions with a personal teacher allow more learning flexibility with scheduling. You'll need a high-speed Internet connection with a good webcam and microphone for your child to benefit fully from these lessons.

Please note that young children may require parental supervision during online lessons.

How do I find a violin teacher for kids?

Mr. Fetherston is so patient, and always encourages my son to pull out his potentials. He is always ready to listen to student’s struggles, and helps out to overcome technical and musical skills/challenges. He understands schedule conflicts due to school sports/activities; he's willing to be flexible to take my son even in weekends.
