Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to do an initial no-cost consultation, up to 60 minutes, to find out their needs, wishes, culinary experience, allergies and food preferences, etc. in order to work collaboratively with them to develop a customized program for them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Cindy Thompson is a certified Health Coach, Master Vegan Lifestyle Coach and Educator, Fitness Nutrition Specialist, and Firefighter Peer Fitness Trainer. She is a Food for Life Instructor with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, Rouxbe Culinary School Plant-Based Professional, and Harvard Medical School Culinary Coach, teaching people how to prepare delicious, satisfying, and health-promoting meals.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Classes generally run 2-hours, $200/class for 1-2 people; $80 per person for 3+ people.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching health and wellness while running the Firefighter Wellness and Fitness program at a large, urban fire department I worked at as a fire captain. I cooked for and taught firefighters how to cook and eat more healthfully. After retiring, I started Trimazing! to help those outside of the fire service as well.
What types of students have you worked with?
Adults, kids, busy professionals, working and stay-at-home moms, firefighters, law enforcement, endurance athletes. I work with the whole range from interested in adding more whole foods and plants to going completely vegan. I also work with people on allergy elimination diets prescribed by their medical providers to help them continue to eat delicious foods when lots of options have been removed.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Along with teaching in-person, I have the ability to do cooking classes via Zoom with a studio kitchen and multiple camera views. You can have a personal cooking class in the comfort of your own home!
