Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We have several entry times during the year where we welcome new students and often start working on a new routine. We have some of our more experienced students work with our new students to get them caught up on the basics. We love getting new students in our classes!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Anne Christiansen - I am the head coach for Eastside Dream Elite. I have a B.A. in Communications and an M.A. in Higher Education. I am the Recreation Cheer Director for the Washington State Cheer Coaches Association (WSCCA) and have served on the WSCCA board of directors since 2005. I am stunt certified, certified to judge cheerleading both in Washington and nationally, and I am AACCA certified as well. I was awarded WSCCA Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2015, EDE was named WSCCA Program of the Year in 2014 and 2015, and was inducted into the WSCCA Hall of Fame in 2017.

How did you get started teaching?
I have been a dancer all my life, was on my high school's Drill Team, and have always loved teaching and coaching. I fell into coaching cheerleading accidentally way back in 1999, but it has truly become my passion in the ensuing years.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with every kind of student imaginable!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I had the opportunity in 2018 to go to Japan and teach cheerleading to a group of students there. One of the other EDE coaches came with me and she performed with a professional cheer squad at two basketball games. It was a trip of a lifetime!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you check certifications and experience! If you get into more advanced cheerleading (specifically stunting and tumbling), you need to make sure you find coaches who are trained and know how to teach these sometimes dangerous skills. Safety should always be the most important factor!
