Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I love to meet and get to know each and every student ... learn what makes them tick and how they learn best. Whether it is a group or private lesson I strive to make each and every student feel connected, important & successful!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been dancing for almost 10 years and participated in the social and competitive dance realm. Currently I am competing in the UCWDC circuit in the Pro-Pro division - having taken several overall championships at competitions across the country. I am always striving to learn more from other instructors and my own experiences to pass on to my students.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Group lessons are $55/dancer for a 5-week series; $65/dancer for a 6-week series; $75/dancer for a 7-week series. If students take multiple group lessons within one series there is a graduated discount program as well.
Private lessons are $50/hour (1 or 2 people in the lesson) and there is also an option to purchase a 5-lesson punch card for $225 (10% discount).
At my studio I also offer special brush up workshops or workshops with other professionals ... pricing for those are on a case-by-case basis.
How did you get started teaching?
I started taking dance lessons "on a whim" and from step one it was magic. I loved the feeling of connecting with someone on the floor and communicating through dance. I found myself walking off the floor every time with a grin from ear to ear! After fully immersing myself in lessons (both group and private) I found myself fully addicted to the sport. The studio I was taking lesson at offered me a role as an instructor and 6 years later that grew in to opening my own studio where I now teach 7 days a week. Owning my own studio has allowed me to flourish as I work to build and continually develop my skills as a dancer and instructor.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with all types of students ... from those that are already flowing on the floor to the famous "two left feet" folks! I like to personally challenge each dancer in their lessons regardless of what level they are at. We find what needs to be worked on and ... as a team ... tackle it!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I work with many wedding couples getting them ready for their "big day". In several cases I have had the pleasure of attending their wedding to celebrate right along side of the couple. Quite often when the couple finishes their dance they come up and give me a big hug and thank me for all the help. We feel like family! Several of my couples have told me that because of my help, their dance was the highlight of their wedding day. There is no greater "thanks" from students than seeing them succeed and feel good about themselves!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find an instructor whose teaching style and personality fit yours. Take a class and test out the waters. We are a wonderfully diverse world of people ... find out what works best for you so the experience can be fun and informative! What works for student A might not work for student B!
