The Maskery
About
We use a mix of online and in person classes and workshops to teach Commedia dell' Arte, Swiss Carnival, Balinese and other mask theater styles and dance traditions. Our passion is teachng short and long form improvisational theater, clowning and physical theater. We also coach individuals in public speaking and enhancing natural character traits.
i believe that art saves lives. As I grew up I was regularly threatened by bullies and, by clowning I was able to survive and eventually thrive. Theater is a controled way of embracing conflict and resolving it to show people living together back in harmony. We must develop a sense of strong character, a sense of good story and storytelling including humor.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start by trying to understand what students bring to the training... including their unique skills, personality traits and interests and then help them expand upon those skills and interests. I especially enjoy working together with a student in the I scenarios devise.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I trained at the Theater Elan school in the Jaques LeCoq physical theater method and I have performed three decades of solo and ensemble puppetry, mask and conventional theater.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$75- $100 for contact time plus expenses.
More students and more planning can increase fees.
How did you get started teaching?
I was hired by the High school I attended just after attending theater school.
What types of students have you worked with?
Mostly high school and college theater classes but also middle and elementary students. Also coaching lawyers, writers and individuals hoping to become more effective in public and on camera
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I had to coach some very talented dancers from the Port Gamble S'Klallam song and drum family to perform roles in our recent film 'The Gift of Salmon'.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Students should be prepared to use every muscle in their body... preferably regularly throughout a scene. Maybe it will be good for you to have a large computer screen to show your whole body when training online.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do you love about theater, film or storytelling? What part of the acting experience do others tell you they appreciate about you?
