I was born in Japan. I have lived in Seattle over 20 years. I worked for several local Japanese restaurant and was a chef at Asian non profit organization. I am cooking instructor specializing Asian style cooking. Most popular class is Sushi basics class include how to make perfect Sushi rice and hands-on rolling. What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My cooking classes are for everyone who likes to learn to cook. We will introduce ourselves and talk about food they are going to cook. Usually I will instruct how to cut and cook and the students will make their own meal during the class.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I currently teach cooking classes my class kitchen, Prune Kitchen Seattle for 11 years. Previously I worked at several local popular Japanese restaurants and was a chef at Asian non profit organization to cook Asian style lunches include Japanese, Chinese,Korean and Vietnamese . I went to Tokyo Sushi academy in Tokyo, Japan to learn Sushi. I have been teaching cooking for 15years at various locations include City of Marysville, Nikkei Horizon, and South Seattle college in addition to at my private cooking class kitchen, Prune Kitchen Seattle.

$95-105 for 2.5-3 hours lesson include ingredients. typeically hands on 3 -5 menu items.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching cooking by request from my friends who wanted to learn to cook tasty japanese meals 20 years ago. I loved it and decided to be a cooking instructor.
What types of students have you worked with?
Many local residents and tuourists from various countries. The students wanted to learn how to make Sushi rolls and other verious Asian style meals.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I showed how to make Japanese 5 course vegan meal to the student. They are thrilled to have nice 5 plated dish and enjoyed the meal.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I think it is good to look for a teacher who love meeting students and cooking varieties delicious meal not only his/her ethnic food. By learning to cook more different food will add something new to the cooking class.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What kind of meal are you want to learn to cook? What does this class add to your cooking ? Is the class hands-on or demonstration? Is this class offer the meal specific to your requirement such as vegetarian and gluten free?
