About

Are you interested in creating your own performance piece? Do you need coaching for an upcoming audition? Are you interested in developing a storytelling piece for a show like The Moth or Risk? Do you have additional skills (eg. playing guitar, dancing, juggling, etc...) that you'd like to encorporate into a performance piece? Do you want to learn how to improvise? Mel has more than 30 years of experience developing new pieces, storytelling, improvising, and coaching.

Mel has an MA in Theatre Arts from the University of Oregon. She has toured the country with several Improv Comedy groups including Brainwaves Improv Comedy. She is currently touring her one-woman show "Sexology: The Musical!" to Fringe Festivals and other events between Portland, OR and Portland, ME. I love helping people achieve their performance goals through vulnerability, honesty, and creativity. I enjoy find out who each person is and working with them to create something truly unique to them. Performance allows us to express our truths pubically and I believe that helps everyone in our culture to explore what is possible. It is important to me to be part of that mission!

Frequently asked questions

Let's meet and talk about your goals in terms of your performance piece. From there, we'll set a game plan including timeline, schedule, and deliverables to achieve those goals. You'll recieve both written and verbal input from me throughout the process and we will continue to hone your performance until you have the piece you want to share with the world.

I have an MA in Theatre Arts from the University of Oregon. During that time as a graduate student, I taught Acting I and II, Acting for the Camera, and Improvisation. Much of my time was spent coaching students to improve scene work, on-camera work, and audition material.

In addition, I studied:

- Improv theory with Keith Johnstone (founder of TheatreSports)

- Improv for social justice with Augusto Boal (founder of Theatre of the Oppressed)

- Sketch writing with Kevin Mc Donald (founding member of Kids in the Hall)
