Dr. Manni Lin is a professional pianist, harpsichordist and fortepianist. She attained her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she majored in Piano Performance and minored in Early Performance, studying under the renowned pianist Christopher Taylor, the winner of Van Cliburn competition. Prior to her time at UW-Madison, she earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Oberlin Conservatory under the guidance of Professor Peter Takács. Fueling her passion for music, she furthered her education by obtaining a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Literature from the distinguished University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, studying under the esteemed Professor Timothy Ehlen. In addition, Dr. Lin was admitted to the selective Artist Diploma program in Harpsichord at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she received a full scholarship in recognition of her exceptional talent and dedication.
Dr. Lin is an exceptionally accomplished musician. As a soloist, she has graced the stages in numerous cities across the United States, including Cleveland, Oberlin, Chicago, Champaign, Madison, and Milwaukee. Internationally, her artistry has also captivated audiences in various cities in China, such as Shanghai, Suzhou, Xiamen, and Fuzhou, as well as in the picturesque setting of Termi Acqui, Italy. Beyond her remarkable solo performances, Dr. Lin has also made her mark as a chamber musician. She served as a valued member, showcasing her piano skills, in the Contemporary Music Ensemble at Oberlin, Ohio. Additionally, her mastery of the harpsichord led her to be a core member of the esteemed Collegium Musicum in Madison, Wisconsin.
Dr. Lin started her professional piano career at the age of 9 at the Shanghai Conservatory of
Music. There she received training in many fields of music, including music theory and music history. She insists on giving her students the most professional piano education, providing a solid foundation of keyboard skill and music theory knowledge required for pianists to play any music splendidly. As an educator, Dr. Lin has over ten years of teaching experience, imparting her knowledge of piano to students of all ages, skill levels, and from diverse backgrounds. Her expertise lies in crafting personalized studying plans tailored to each student's unique requirements and aspirations. Dr. Lin excels in nurturing college applicants, skillfully guiding and elevating their musical abilities to pave the way for successful applications to colleges through music. Additionally, she possesses a remarkable talent for introducing beginners to the world of music in an engaging and enjoyable manner, ensuring that the learning process is both enriching and far from monotonous. Her passion for teaching and dedication to her students make her a truly exceptional and inspiring instructor.
Dr. Lin possesses a firm grasp of music from the Baroque and Classical eras, owing to her extensive experience mastering historical instruments that Mozart and Bach composed on. Her dissertation at UW-Madison focused on Russian composers and their impact on new music, earning her recognition as a "Russian Specialist.” Her performance of Alexander Mosolov’s Second Sonata was acclaimed by her committee as one of the best performances of the piece.

I started professional piano study at age of 9. It allowed me to systematically learn piano playing and related music knowledge. After getting top-level education, I realized that I would like to share and teach whatever I know to more people.
