Heather Batey Studio
About
Welcome! I offer caring, professional instruction in voice and piano for students of all ages at my studio in Pelham, Alabama, located just minutes from major interstates and the Birmingham, AL metro area. The lessons take place in a relaxed home studio setting. I welcome students of all ages who want to learn to sing better, whether they are just beginning, a seasoned professional, or somewhere in between. I offer the same level of service to those who are taking lessons for fun and recreation as I do to the student working on a career in music. I hold degrees in both music education and performance, and 20+ years experience teaching students of all ages. Regardless of what singing style appeals to you, I can help you achieve your goals. Emphasis is on correct singing technique, breath support, expanding the vocal range, and a relaxed, open tone that is powerful, rich, & expressive which will be applicable to a variety of musical styles. Our work together will also include selecting literature to sing, song interpretation, and poise & presentation. I offer assistance in preparing for auditions and competitions, and can also provide a variety of opportunities for performance to help you gain confidence in your singing. Students of this studio are taught all skills necessary for a well-rounded education in music, including theory, sight-reading, musicianship, ear-training, and keyboard skills. Studio space is limited and new students will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. I keep a waiting list of those interested students we are not able to accommodate at this time. At this time, I am not accepting new piano students except in conjunction with voice lessons. Please visit my website for more information on my teaching background and qualifications, lesson information and policies, pricing, and much more.

Frequently asked questions
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a bachelors degree in both vocal/choral and instrumental music education, and a Master's degree in vocal performance. I regularly attend workshops and conferences to continue my growth as a teacher and singer. I am active in several professional organizations (NATS, MTNA) that support my teaching, and allow me to collaborate with colleagues.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons are priced in a package based on 15 lessons per semester, with payments divided into monthly installments. Students who cannot commit to regular weekly lessons may schedule "a la carts" lessons based on availability at a slightly higher hourly rate. Students may begin in the middle of a term if the schedule allows, and tuition is prorated for the number of weeks left. I offer several flexible packages for summer lessons.
