Amy Z. says, "Bucket is a wonderful teacher! He has been working with my son for almost 2 years now on drum set in all genres as well as helping him reach his goal of making drumline in marching band. He is positive and encouraging and has great energy! My son has learned so much skill wise, but also has become more confident as a person. He really cares about creating a well rounded drummer and helping his students achieve their goals. I highly recommend Bucket as a drum teacher! We feel lucky to have found him! " Read more

Welcome! I’ve been teaching drums for the last 8 and half years. I grew up playing in different churches around the valley and eventually went on to study Jazz Percussion at Arizona State University. There, I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Performance. Currently, I am a private instructor at KAT’s Artist Tree in Goodyear and Musical Surprise.

I guide each and every student through the techniques of playing the drums. This includes, but is not limited to, notation, rudiments, all styles, songs and more. I develop a specific Lesson Plan for each student and do not use a "canned" lesson approach. I've been teaching privately in Phoenix for over 13 years and I also teach at 3 different public schools for the lat 9 years.

Mike S. says, "Matt has been my guitar teacher over the past year and his help has been very significant in my improvement as a guitar player. Matt has helped me through multiple songs such as the Allman Brothers version of “Stormy Monday”, “Wanted Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi and Led Zeppelins “Gallows Pole”. More importantly Matt has definitely improved my rhythm playing as well as my ability to play solos. He has also taught me about the role of the guitar player in a band and relates that role to rhythm, chords and solos that are played. He provided a structure that helped me better learn the fret board. Matt is very competent with music theory and conveys what is necessary for the student to be more competent and further enjoy playing guitar. At each of our lessons Matt demonstrates his expertise in music and guitar. Additionally, and important to me, is that Matt represents and conducts himself in a polite and professional manner. He is easy and fun to work with and cares about the success of his students." Read more

Reviews for Avondale drum lessons

Bucket, was my Captain of Dos Pueblos High School Drum Core. He was also my Captain of Santa Barbara Dolls Drum Core. We were not only good, but we were the best. One year we performed in Los Angeles, as the Santa Barbara Dolls Drum Core, and not just won, but scored a 99.8 %. Bucket, was always patient, calm, but persistent to get the best out of each one of us. Not only could he write cadences, but he could design the best movements of the snare line, Quads, and Base Drums. Drums sticks tricks, back sticking, base drums walking backwards, keeping it really fun for the player and the crowd, but with a disciplined military overall theme. There is only one musician better than Bucket, and that was his Mentor, and Band Director, Dr. Ike Jenkins, who brought out the best in him. I’ve travelled all over the world playing drums myself with bands, but still haven’t met anyone as talent as Emanuel “Bucket” Baker. Yes, a great man, with a great heart, who only wants the best from you, and while spend hours and hours to make sure your the best.
