About
We are an Open-Air-Dojo. We train in the natural environment, meaning outside. We are Body, Mind, Spirit focused, with emphasis on self defense, self discipline, self respect, and empowerment. We teach traditional Okinawan Karate.
Adding valuable life skills to one's life. Passing on what was given to us to learn, enjoy, and cherish.
The curriculum here at Rayford Shorin-Ryu Karate-Do and Kobudo, is extensive. Not only will students learn the basic skills to defend themselves in any situation, but they also enter into an very old, traditional Okinawan Martial Art, with rich history. Shorin-Ryu was developed for close quarter combat, to disable an attacker and escape in seconds. Besides being an extremely effective and powerful Artform, Shorin-Ryu focuses on the development of all areas of character, integrity, responsibility, accountability, great confidence, and humility.
Shorin-Ryu is NOT a sport Karate. We do not train to enter into competitions to win trophies or to shine. We train for the battle that hopefully will never come, but if it were to present itself, we will know what to do instinctively, and hopefully escape with our lives! After all, self defense, is for personal protection!
We are family here, and we make it very affordable for anyone, from 3 years old, to 103 years old, to train.
Let us welcome you to our Dojo family!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First two classes are introductory. We do not believe that 30 days of classes, at a discounted rate, helps to make a decision. A student will know if they want to continue after their second class. If they do want to continue, a liability waiver is signed and first tuition fee paid. With first tuition fee, they will receive a student Gi and a belt. We do not believe in binding students to any type of monthly contracts, or 3 year long discounted tuition, asking a student to pay thousands of dollars up front! That is not the spirit of Karate-Do! Either they want to train, or they do not.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Sensei Regina has been training in Shorin-Ryu Karate for over 11 years, and is a 3rd degree black belt. Sensei is also a member of WOSKKA- (World Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Karate and Kobudo Association) Sensei is also a certified member of ATAMA (American Teacher's Association of Martial Arts)
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Tuition is $65.00. Unlimited classes and notcontracts or extra testing fees (except for black belt tests. We also have family discounts for 2 or more students.
How did you get started teaching?
Sensei Regina entered into Karate ove 11 years ago, when she enrolled 2 of her children. After receiving her black belt, she then began teaching on a part time basis. Now she is teaching the full Shorin-Ryu curriculum, with classes 5 days a week.
What types of students have you worked with?
Sensei has worked with every kind of student from 3 years old to 75 years old. Sensei has experience with special needs students as well.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently I was promoted to 3rd degree. This one in particular, was special for the fact that I survived double cancer and am still here to train, grow, and teach.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would suggest that a potential student stay away from contracts. Not that contracts are necessarily a bad thing for a business, however, many students (for one reason or another) stop training. A contract will keep you financially obligated for it's term. Why pay for services that the student no longer uses?
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Is this something I can commit to?
Does my schedule allow me to get to class consistently and on time?
Am I serious in reaching my goals?
