Merrill Leffmann Voice Studio
About
Excellent training, fun, reliable fast results.
I've spent 20 years learning what works fastest for whom. Training includes years of study with different vocal masters from a variety of technical schools and genres as well as a Masters in Music (voice) and years of performing and teaching.
Seeing and hearing and helping people blossom. People come for different reasons - a televised show before millions, auditions, singing to their baby, singing to themselves, singing at their wedding, you name it. What everyone has in common is that learning to sing is a path of adventure and joy for them.
I love being good at helping people enjoy the adventure and succeed in their goals.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Depends on the student. It is a mix of exercises and songs, once I hear the voice. Some students progress fastest with a lot of exercises, some need more songs. This can be for technical or personality or situation. We work however the student will progress most satisfyingly and rapidly to their goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Masters in Music, Voice
In addition:
4 years of Garcia-Marchesi training (opera and musical theater)
5 years of mentorship with the most amazing teacher and musician I ever met, Ann Thornton, now deceased. She taught me how to take my trained voice and sing musically, authentically, originally, passionately and joyfully.
Miscellaneous other training such as Speech Level Singing and other techniques I have added to my tool box

How did you get started teaching?
While in the Masters programs for voice I started taking students on the side.
What types of students have you worked with?
Oh my. Many types. Pop, jazz, classical, Middle Eastern (he brought examples of how he wanted to sing and so I knew what he wanted), cabaret, folk, barbershop, country, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some.
I work a lot with older adults. Also with all ages - teens, children, etc... Singing is GREAT for their confidence.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Today I worked with a new student, never had lessons. In one hour the progress was incredible. I love this.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you are progressing rapidly and having fun and feeling great while doing it.
Try out other teachers if you have any doubts.
Don't get roped into obligations to a teacher. They are there fo you, not vice versa.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do you want to accomplish. What is the reason you will walk into a studio to sing?
Near and far. All answers are right. I want to sound better in the shower. I want to win the VOICE. What do YOU want? We can't help you reach it unless you know.
What is your time frame?
