Cheryl B. says, "Marshal has been very inspiring and very adaptive to my wishes. He didn't keep me entrenched in music theory for months as some teachers do. Instead, I learned theory while learning to play music, which was much more enjoyable and motivating. If I wanted to play a specific song, he would locate an arrangement that was not too challenging for my skill level. Once I could play the piece, he would enhance the arrangement by adding or changing some notes and teaching me how to do that. The results have been wonderful. I have several pieces that I really enjoy playing. And that was my goal when we started-- to play the piano for my own enjoyment. FYI, I am 77 years old and look forward to my lessons with Marshal every week. Playing the piano keeps my mind sharp and my fingers nimble. I highly recommend Marshal for anyone who has the desire to learn to play the piano." Read more

Daniel M. says, "I have had a great experience taking piano lessons with Shaun! He is deeply knowledgable in theory, mechanics, and rhythm and his passion really shines through and is infectious. The lessons are highly engaging and are a good mix of playing and theory and he does a great job adjusting the material and the balance of the content based on a student's needs. Shaun is highly patient and caring and goes above and beyond to ensure a student has the highest possibility of success. For instance, he not only consistently uploads video tutorials of songs we are working on, but also different versions emphasizing different aspects of the piece (e.g. rhythm, expression/articulation etc.). He also prints out material helping illustrate material and uses a white board to help concepts. Overall, he does everything he can to cater to a student's needs and uses a plethora of methods to help one progerss. I also appreciated Shaun's flexibility! He is very undertanding of people's schedules and is also happy to work on whatever song I wanted to. His passion for all music is great because he can work on songs from a wide range of genres (jazz, pop, classical/movie scores, etc.). Shaun also does a good job of progressing individual pieces, starting from playing a simple version to a more complex one which helps with a sense of progress. In short, a fantastic teacher that made his lessons a part of the week I always looked foward to!" Read more

I'm one of the very few piano accordion teachers in the South Bay Area. I have a vast repertoire of music in many different styles and can teach at all skill levels. I have small accordions to loan -- they don't stress the back. I love accordion music and love to introduce people to it. Everyone enjoys the music that I play, even if they don't know that they like accordion music.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.

How much are piano lessons?

Piano lessons cost $40 to $80 per hour, depending on the location, their experience level, and session length. A piano lesson package costs $180 to $350 for five 1-hour lessons. Children's piano lessons and online lessons often cost less than average.

Piano lessons are available for all ages in most cities in the country. Music instructors teach:

  • Music theory
  • Sight-reading
  • Improvisation
  • How to improve playing or technique

At what age should you start piano lessons?

The best age to start piano lessons is 5 to 9 years, though learning how to play the piano doesn't have an age limit. Playing the piano strengthens fine motor skills, increases flexibility, and improves your memory no matter how old you are.

Are piano lessons worth it?

Piano lessons are worth the money and effort invested over time. Playing an instrument can be beneficial for mental health, and cognitive strength. For smaller budgets, book just a few lessons to get the basics down and continue on your own.

How long are piano lessons?

Piano lessons for beginners or children are typically 30 to 45 minutes per session. Intermediate or advanced lessons are 45 to 60+ minutes per session. Most people have 1 to 2 lessons per week.

Can you learn to play piano online?

Yes, you can learn to play piano online through a webcam or virtual tutorials. Search our list of online piano teacher near you to find an instructor. Online piano lessons are often more convenient than in-person lessons and cost 20% less on average.

How do I select a piano teacher?

Start by searching our list of piano teachers, then:

  • Get at least three free estimates to compare.
  • Read reviews on Lessons and Google if possible.
  • Ask for references from current or recent students.
  • Make sure they are kind and personable, especially when with children.
  • Get a written estimate and schedule before the first lesson.
  • Avoid making a large payment up front. Follow a payment plan instead.

After asking questions and browsing reviews, hire the best piano instructor in your area.

What questions should I ask piano instructors?

When hiring piano teachers near you, ask the following questions:

  • How long have you been teaching piano?
  • Do you have a degree in music?
  • What age do you typically teach?
  • What genre of piano do you specialize in?
  • Will you give me a contract or payment arrangement in writing?
  • Will you allow me to choose some or all of the songs we practice?

Reviews for Dublin piano teachers

Recent success stories from people in the Dublin area.
Ian K.
I am an adult student taking piano lessons from Marshal. I have found him to be a great teacher who genuinely understands teaching at its core. He does not simply hand you a textbook and tell you to start on page one as if you are a machine awaiting programming. He instead gauged my current skill level and based off of that determined what to focus on or even to postpone an idea if it wasn't relevant/helping at that moment. If you laid out every lesson I have done with him the focus might seem scattered but I know firsthand it's exactly what I needed at the time and my skill progression has felt nothing but smooth and natural through his teachings.
