Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Our adults learn to swim through a series of steps developed by The Swim Pro specifically for adults based on how they learn best. A typical adult can learn to swim in around 8 hours. This technique works so well that everyone who completes the steps learns to swim.
Our children learn water safety skills as well as strokes. Have specific goals--parent input is welcome here! Don't let your child get left behind in the group setting--private lessons let your child learn at their perfect pace.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All of our Instructors are fully trained by us in our methods of teaching. CPR/First Aid certified
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes, the most updated prices are available on our website. We also have a generous reward system. Please ask about our new student rates.
How did you get started teaching?
The Swim Pro was founded by Kelly McPhail who realized a safe place for adults and children with water fears was needed in Silicon Valley. Our Private lesson program brings faster results than typical group swim programs.
What types of students have you worked with?
The extremely fearful adult and child.
Non-swimming adults
Those with special needs such as autism, seeing/hearing impaired, and non-english speaking.
Triathletes
Junior lifeguard trainees
SWAT Team Water Training
SCUBA Diving trainees
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
All of the non-swimmers turned swimmers who have used their new found confidence to pursue other dreams they were afraid to before.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Hands down the best advice I can give is to compute the price per minute of individual instruction to compare private versus group and to find the best deal in your area.
Don't forget to factor in added fees! We offer no registration fees, or commitment to a set number of lessons or set day/time of the week. Flexible scheduling has worked great for our students!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
We can accommodate nearly all needs because we are private and always work at our students' pace. With The Swim Pro you can choose any of our locations, any instructor and any available time so just have your calendar out when you are using our self-scheduling system.
