FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

My lesson program, if you are a beginner, is to play a song on the drums in your first four lessons. For intermediate to advanced students, we start with a drum analysis tool to help identify your #1 progress killer, these moves, once corrected can short cut months and somrtimes even years of drum practice and give a huge jump in your drum playing skills overnight.  Some of my private one on one calsses include the following: Rudiments, reading and chart reading, hand and feet coordination, how to practice, the four primary styles. Rock, Jazz, Blues and Funk. Developing hand and foot speed, learning songs, customize individual lesson program at the students request, specializing in auditions for middle school & high school band & jazz ensembal

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Ask someone who has taken lesson with that teacher and see what they liked about the teacher. Is the teacher sincere and personal about their lesson and is the teacher available 24/7 with their time for the student. How long have they been teaching and what kind of classes does the teacher offer, is the teacher very knowledgeable in most aspects of drumming. How long has teacher been teaching/ playing, what kind of education if any and who have they studied with?

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Make sure the student knows what they want to learn, write down three things they would like to improve on and or learn.
