Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When booking a new student, I like to find out their goals and expectations based on their experiences. It is important for me to know where the student has been and where they would like to go.
When working with a new student, the first thing before we get in the water is do a safety talk and walk. This is where we point out the pool's features, the pool rules, and what to do if there is an emergency. Then we get into the pool! When in, we do a short little warm up or game (depending on student's abilities) and do a skills assessment once I can see how comfortable they are in the water.
After the skills assessment, we go right into the foundational skills that need some focus and we build from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Since 1995, I have been a certified lifeguard and swim instructor. I have coached high school water polo, swimming, and diving since 1998.
I competed in water polo, swimming, and diving in college and have completed triathlons.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Group lessons are $25 per half hour per student up to a group of six.
Private lessons are $35 per half hour with only one student.
Semi-private lessons are $30 with up to 2 students.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching as a summer lifeguard at the local community pool. I continued teaching because it was fun and I could help to make swimmers safer and to prevent senseless drownings.
What types of students have you worked with?
Parent and Toddlers, Preschoolers, elementary and secondary students.
