Sound T. says, " lady in chairThe Distant Energy Balancing I received for my Sound Bath Immersion Therapy ™ Session far exceeded my expectations. I invite you to read the enclosed texts I wrote to Dynell when I felt the Distant Healing portion of her session begin. Dynell told me the Distant Energy Balancing portion of the session begins about two hours in advance. She had explained that, by the time I arrive, the session will have already been in process. I was really looking forward to it. What Dynell did not tell me is, sometimes her channels open 1-3 days in advance of a session. She just “starts work early”, channeling her Vibration Of Light energy. Additionally, she won’t say a thing or even charge if her channels open early. Much to my surprise, I felt Dynell’s channels open when she began working on me from a distance. I felt it 24 hours prior to the session, not 2 hours. I was not at all expecting to feel anything a whole day before my session! It never occurred to me. When she said, “Distant Energy Balancing“, she meant exactly that. I felt it, and have enclosed my text to her the moment I felt the shift." Read more

Leila K. says, "Dr. Walterman completed changed my confidence and ability to think in a growth mindset for the better. She taught me the essential skill of believing in yourself and perseverance. Through her, I learned how to accept mistakes I’ve made, tackle continuous challenges with the viola, and love myself, the music, and the instrument all while doing so. When I wanted to quit, she was there for me to tell me “if you get better one percent each day, by next year, you’ll be 365% better.” A lesson like that will stick with me for the rest of my life. Dr. Walterman focuses on the technical aspects of playing, something I struggled with getting with other teachers. She always imparts advice on how to improve while congratulating the improvements already made. I couldn’t ask for a better viola instructor! Overall, I’m very happy to have her as my teacher." Emilie F. says, "Lisa brings so much experience, talent, and is more than qualified to instruct learners of all levels. I started playing viola at 25 with zero knowledge about instruments or music, and she has been incredibly patient with my journey so far. I was initially worried that I would have to learn everything all at once, but she teaches me new skills and how to read different notes as I need them; I’m learning at just the right pace and don’t feel overwhelmed! Lisa has made my lessons such an enjoyable experience, and, in only 3 months, I have improved and learned so much. She is flexible, and since we keep a consistent schedule for the most part, it has really become a weekly routine for me. I highly recommend her for prospective students." Read more

Kristin B. says, "Erica is a fantastic violin instructor whom my mother found via lessons.com back in February. She's very knowledgeable, personable, patient and a gentle soul who wants to help students achieve their best self whilst playing this beautiful instrument. I've been having lessons once a week ever since and they are very affordable, even during the pandemic (thank goodness I still have a job). I highly recommend her to anyone who's looking for an instructor." Read more

Billy S. says, "Yo this guy is amazing! Very transparent and works towards goals that you are interested in, not a standard cookie cutter 12 week guitar course. He's been teaching for 16+ years and you can really see the love he has for teaching when he'll sit with you for an extra 20 minutes past the schedule and not ask for a single dime extra for it. I've taken about 4 weeks of lessons with him and have already booked him for the next 6 months. Absolutely book him before he goes on tour!! " Read more

Alicia A. says, "My daughter worked with Mikala Schmitz from our home here in Houston when we had a hard time finding someone who specialized in cello in our area. I can certainly say her passion and knowledge of this instrument shone throughout their time spent together in their online class. So glad we met her! I'd give 10 stars if I could! Hard to find someone who clearly finds joy in their work. Mrs. Mikala is one of those jewels <3" Read more

Your Violin Lessons questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much do violin lessons cost near me?

Violin lessons cost $30 to $80 per session for classes starting at 30 minutes long or up to 60 minutes long. A private violin teacher costs $50 to $80 for an hour. A group lesson costs $20 to $30 each time.

You can expect to pay $190 to $360 every month when pre-booking violin lessons.

Are violin lessons worth it?

Violin lessons are worth it if you aspire to enhance your skills rapidly and perform for audiences. Expert tutelage in the violin can aid in cultivating appropriate techniques and tackling challenges efficiently, thus accelerating progress.

Learning violin without private feedback is extremely difficult and takes much longer.

How many violin lessons do I need?

You need as many violin lessons as it takes to reach your personal goals, depending on how good you are now, how much you practice, and how qualified your teacher is. Most folks need to take violin classes regularly for many months before they can play a basic song or read music.

Generally, it takes about 3 to 6 years to start playing many different songs quite well. If you want to play like a professional, it often takes more than 10 years of ongoing practice and tutoring.

How long are violin lessons?

Violin lessons are 30 minutes long for beginners and up to 60 minutes long on average. Extended lessons are only for advanced students, will cost extra, and are subject to the teacher's availability.

What age is best to start violin lessons?

The best age to start violin lessons is between 4 to 7 years old at the earliest, or whenever you have a strong enough focus on learning and can hold the instrument comfortably. Children need to exhibit sufficient physical coordination and concentration before they can start violin lessons.

However, adults are capable of learning and deriving pleasure from playing the violin, irrespective of their age.

How do I find a violin teacher near me?

You can find a violin teacher nearby very quickly by browsing the listings here on the Lessons website. Alternatively, you can ask for affiliated private teachers at local music stores.

  • Before hiring a violin teacher in your area, always remember to:
  • Compare the prices of at least 3 violin instructors.
  • Read what others have said about the teachers on Lessons and Google.
  • Ask them which of their past students you can talk to for a reference.
  • Get a written agreement and a lesson plan before the first lesson.
  • Follow a plan to pay a little at a time until you feel sure the teacher is right for you.

What questions do I ask a violin teacher before hiring?

Here are some questions to help you find the best violin teacher:

  • How many years have you been teaching the violin?
  • What age group of students do you prefer teaching?
  • How many degrees in music do you have, and do you play professionally?
  • Can I try out a lesson for free or with a discount to see if it works for me?
  • Do you have violin rentals at your school if I don't have one at home?
  • How much do I need to practice to reach my goals?
  • What books or sheet music should I buy?
  • Can you change how you teach to help students with special needs?
  • What kind of violin music are you best at teaching?
  • Should I expect homework to memorize?
  • What should I bring, and how long does each class last?
  • Can I get a copy of our class schedule, agreement, and how to pay?
  • What happens if I need to cancel a class due to an emergency?
  • Can I pick some of my favorite songs to learn?

I am very pleased with Lisa Fowler's instruction. I finder knowledgeable, experienced and very patient. I firs tried some learn through YouTube videos but quickly realized in our first lesson hat there is nothing like one on one training that gave me a much better start. She is teaching me things that I have never seen in the many videos watched and find tremendous value for the cost of my lessons.
