About
Hello! My name is Eric KM Clark, violinist, educator and general artist-at-large. If you're interested in learning more about my background, feel free to check out my website www.ekmc.us and look around the web. I have a Master's degree in performance (violin) and composition from the California Institute of the Arts.
Musically and pedagogically, I strongly believe in the power and voice of the individual, in that we all have unique paths to our own education and growth. I have been teaching privately on violin, viola and composition since 2008, and have also guest lectured and performed at many Universities and Colleges around Los Angeles and North America. Music helps develop the brain and create a calm in an otherwise chaotic environment, so if you are looking for advanced study or to simply attain a healthy life balance, studying with me may be of interest. My students have been accepted to many colleges, including USC, Vasser, Chapman, and many UC schools, in both music and many other areas of interest.
I provide lessons either in-person at your home or online via zoom. If you would like help with your college preparation and application, please feel free to reach out as well! [email protected]

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to assess what the new student's background is, and let them demonstrate to me with either basic scales or whatever their knowledge base is. If a beginner, I do the demonstrating and we build from there. If more advanced, I diagnose their level and assign some technique/studies and pieces to begin our journey together.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master's Degree in performance and composition, along with a BMus. I have 15 years experience teaching privately and coaching chamber music and orchestras via a nonprofit organization before deciding to teach independently this past year. I have also been on many studio recordings, which may be seen via my website.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
1 hour: $110 in person / $90 online
45 minutes: $95 in person / $75 online
30 minutes: $75 in person / $60 online
How did you get started teaching?
My first ever student was actually when I was in High School, so it has been an interest of mine for a long time. I pursued it as a career (along with freelance recording and performing) while working with a string quartet in 2008, and it grew from there.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught students from ages 5-75. Currently, I have private students ranging in age from 5 to late 50s. Some have been very serious and have been accepted/attended schools like USC and CSULB as music majors, while others have gone on to medical school or to become architects as an example. And others study with me as children or adults to enjoy music outside of their normal education and careers. My students are of all backgrounds, and each has a unique path which I find fascinating to explore with them.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I'm proud of all my students who have continued to learn and advance during Covid, and all of the video performances we have filmed (and continue to film) creating a lush library to share with family and friends.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Speak openly about what you hope to achieve or work on, and just see if you enjoy it. Everyone is different with personality and chemistry, and don't be intimidated to voice your opinions. And please ask any and all questions, they are most often excellent starting points for a musical discussion.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
If you are willing to commit to a regular practice schedule; any areas they know they need or want improvement with.
