Sacramento Uechi Ryu Karate Dojo
About
We offer traditional Okinawan karate and Kobudo classes. The instructors are all certified black belts. Most have trained and tested on Okinawa.
The class is run as a non profit. We are committed to offering a karate experience close to what one would receive on Okinawa absent the typhoons and humidity.
We are welcoming and inclusive of anyone sincerely interested in karate training.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We evaluate the student’s experiences and expectations and invite the student to either watch or participate in a class. New students are typically paired with senior students who provide instruction in basic stance, stepping, arm position, movement and breathing.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am an 8th degree black belt, promoted on Okinawa in 2011. I also hold a Master Instructor (Shihan) license issued by the Okikukai Uechi Ryu Karate Association on Okinawa. I have been teaching karate since 1977. I also hold the rank of 2nd degree black belt in Aikido and I have practiced Okinawan weapons training (Kobudo) since the mid 80’s.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
We do not charge for instruction. We request a $20 a month contribution to the College Glen Neighborhood Association Foundation (a 501(c)(3) educational non profit) for support of the Association’s programs.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
In 2017 I travelled to Okinawa with six members of the class to train with my instructor and other senior instructors of my association.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
This is an incredibly personal relationship. Be sure that you connect with the teacher, that you trust the teacher and that it is clear that your health and safety are a primary concern of the teacher and other class participants.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What is your current level of health? Do you have any injuries or physical limitations? Why are you interested in training?
