About this pro

I was born in Argentina. Through my family and the community that saw my upbringing, I have been intimately involved with Tango all my life, and have been an Argentine Tango dancer, choreographer and instructor for over 30 years. I profoundly love Tango dancing, music, and culture, particularly that of the Golden Era. I am a milonguero.

I have been teaching tango since 1994, giving lessons and performing in Argentina, USA, Canada, Europe and Indonesia. Academically, I taught Tango at institutions like the City of Rosario Ministry of Culture, and Rosario’s National Theatre School. In 1996, I made my first trip to Europe, teaching and performing in Barcelona, Toulouse, London, Copenhagen, Berlin and Leipzig. In 1998, 1999, and 2000, I taught and performed in the Tango Festivals at Toulouse, France. While in the San Francisco Bay Area, I keep a busy schedule teachinging group classes, workshops, talks about Tango, and private lessons. I go to Buenos Aires several times a year to teach and perform at some of the most prominent Milongas, such as Salon Canning, Confitería Ideal, Obelisco Tango and El Beso, among others.

I was one of the jurors of the First and Second USA Official Tango Festival and Championship that took place in San Francisco in April 2011 and 2012.

In November 2011, with associates from Buenos Aires we established the Escuela de Tango de Buenos Aires (ETBA). ETBA counts with renowned Tango instructors. The purpose of ETBA is to help people find connection through Tango and to help them to achieve their full expression at every milonga they go to, anywhere in the world.

As an instructor, I like to put emphasis on musicality and the dance partner's connection to each other and the music, stressing that Tango is a social dance framed by a specific set of values that are expressed through its codes of etiquette. I encourage my students to develop their ability to improvise on the dance floor. After the training you receive in my classes, dancing becomes an easy game to play. With these elements, I aim to create a unique atmosphere through which students can experience what a Milonga in Buenos Aires is like.

To allow students to experience Tango and its culture at its birthplace, I offers a personally guided Tango Tour to Buenos Aires twice a year. If you are planning on visiting Buenos Aires don’t hesitate to contact me; I would like to put at your service my knowledge of the City and its culture, the milongas, restaurants, and the authentic pulse of Buenos Aires.

I gave a try through a Groupon to Marcelo's Solis Tango lessons without imagining it'd turn out so interesting and enjoyable learning how to dance in his Studio. He makes you feel comfortable and make it easy to understand the esy it goes by the way he and his staff explain you Tango moves. He's a very flexible person and also always willing to help you with any doubt. Doesn't matter how many times he has to explain he makes it sure you got it correctly! 💯 percentage recomendable to sign up and start taking lessons wit him!!

Marcelo is the BEST. He is such a passionate and patient teacher who will not only teach you tango but also the culture and art embraced in this dance.

Marcelo is an experienced dancer and a teacher, and it shows in his work. He is patient, gentle, detail oriented, and at the same time playful, engaging and enthusiastic about his work, students, tango and life. Tango has opened new doors for me in my life; trusting my body and others with it, exploring and healing emotions in a positive and constructive context; refining my concepts of life and my place in it. I am grateful for Marcelo being able to gently guide me through the process of discovering myself through dancing and being part of this community. When I see Marcelo working with others, I am always amazed at how quickly and precisely he can point out the next step for their improvement and enjoyment of dancing. He is always present and eager to offer you his hand to follow him through exciting discoveries. Tango has put a semi permanent smile on my face, and an undeletable mark on my heart. If life is a dance, this is a great opportunity to learn how to do it.

I've been taking lessons and classes with Marcelo for more than 4 years. His way of teaching Tango is very organic and gets to the heart of Tango in its purest form. The methods used in his classes enables the student to develop personal expression of every song in the tanda.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

Each class begins with brushing on the fundamentals of Tango: walking to the rhythm, proper posture, body alignment, comfortable embrace. We study movements, from basics to sophisticated. We work on technical details through exercises and drills. I demonstrate the elements’ function in connection with the music, the floor, the partner, other couples, the line of dance. You learn to gracefully navigate the milonga floor as well as the whole cultural context of social tango.
