John M. says, "Bruce is really well organized. During our 45 minute lessons, I felt like we were always moving forward with relevant material. Although I was hesitant to learn using a metronome, I immediately saw a change in the way I was playing because of it.
Exercises were especially challenging for me because, as a kid taking lessons, I hated to practice. With Mr. Holms I gained a very quick understanding of his favorite phrase, “Practicing is playing — Playing is practicing”. I don’t know how I missed that — but I get it now.
I had spent about $500 for a keyboard that I couldn’t even “turn on” as a gift to myself. Within minutes he showed me how to work the keyboard and I was playing a simple song by the end of our first lesson.
If it wasn’t for his patience and great teaching methods I would still have that keyboard in a box — in the closet.
He is always on time (he comes to my home), has a positive attitude, and always listens to my concerns. If he had been my first teacher (when I was a kid), I’d be a pianist today.
I am so deeply grateful to Bruce Holms for gifting me with the wish of my life — to be able to play piano!" Read more
