Imagine a world where your student feels confident and excited to learn math. Let’s go.

I am committed to creating learning experiences that empower all students to reach their potential. I am a passionate and qualified educator, USC grad, and LMU grad with my master’s and math teaching credential. Since 2014, I have helped 400+ students grow their confidence and skills. I create new, personalized activities and instruction that are grounded in universal design to spark achievement and joy in learning math.

What sets Math x Motion apart is the emphasis on kinesthetic learning (aka tactile or hands-on learning). After all, if traditional methods aren’t working, it’s time to try something different and effective. Your student may not like math yet, but we’ll find what works.

I dont normally write reviews but felt compelled to because Gloria is a truly gifted teacher/tutor who I HIGHLY recommend. My son had always been a strong math student but ended up with a teacher this year who (literally) never checked the students homework or class work-so the only gauge we had on his progress was a few tests. I hired Gloria to work with him so we could see if hes learning what he needs to and how strong his grasp is on the material. He was initially very resistant to the idea of having a tutor, but after one session with her, he hasnt balked once. We decided to have him keep working with her all summer to keep everything fresh in his mind and be ready for the fall, and theyve been covering advanced material. The best part is--I hear him laughing throughout each session, my husband sometimes asks if hes playing a game with his friends ;-). She knows exactly how to connect with him-make it understandable, interesting, challenging, fun, and FUNNY. She nails it.

We love Gloria! My 3rd grade daughter was struggling with math and it was really impacting her confidence. When we reached out to Gloria we were looking to help Sofia with basic 3rd grade math skills which we hoped would improve her confidence. Glorias style is fun, interactive and focused on teaching the whole kid. During their sessions I heard lots of math skills being taught, but also a lot of giggling and chatting, which took math from being boring and hard to being fun and exciting. Sofias confidence starting improving almost immediately and her math skills soon followed, her teacher noticed marked improvement and her test scores improved significantly. When COVID made in-person tutoring impossible, Gloria quickly adjusted to Zoom sessions and Sofia got the math help that I couldnt give her during my feeble attempts at homeschooling. I cant say enough great things about Gloria, she is awesome!

Gloria has been such a huge help to me. I seriously do not know what I would do without her! I was skeptical about online tutoring at first, as it was my first time trying it...but she made sure I felt comfortable meeting through Zoom, and then we got down to business.
During all of our sessions, she gave clear explanations and worked out problems with me step by step. Shes passionate about her work, and she has a nice balance of hands-on and hands-off in her approach to tutoring. So whether youre completely lost, a tad bit confused, or ready to take it to the next level, call her! You will not be disappointed!!

If it wasnt for Gloria I would not have been able to pass my teacher exams. I am not a test taker and had to retake the math portion of the exam many times but Gloria came to the rescue! She is very enthusiastic about math. She listened to my fears and helped me practice ways to manage my nerves and keep going during testing.
As a now fellow teacher, I want to say that Gloria is caring, patient, and passionate about what she does to help students of all ages learn and be best they can be. :) Thank you, Gloria! The kiddos (and adults!) are lucky to have you. :)

My daughter is in 3rd grade and she needed help with math. I tried to do it myself … but it was hard coming from “mom.”
THEN, she started working with Gloria — a tutor who comes to your home and incorporates movement, games, and FUN to teach math. She will empower your child and change their outlook. We have been working for two hours a week and it has made a WORLD of difference.
My daughter LOVES their time together, is making quick progress and feels confident about math. Most importantly, she is building trust in the process of learning. She went from being anxious to feeling good. Math is now her favorite subject!
I was not clear on how my child was doing in math. Now I know exactly where my child needs support most. Invaluable.
Gloria comes to you or meets at the library or quiet workspace. She has been a game-changer for our child, a life-changer for our family!
Work with her once and you’ll see why her methodology is a cut above!

Gloria is incredible!! She is smart, creative, and the ultimate cheerleader to boost your kid’s confidence and love of learning. My son is 11 and has always struggled in math, and I could tell it affected his confidence too. My husband and I tried to help him, but the concepts didn’t stick, and then everyone was frustrated. We needed a professional.
I was already amazed after the first session because my son seemed HAPPY and EXCITED while LEARNING MATH. What?! My son had been complaining and complaining about tutoring, but now he was actually laughing! My son plays baseball, so Gloria created an activity using baseball to teach FRACTIONS. Yep.
Gloria’s also great with communication, and she even created a google drive folder to share her lessons and progress notes, so I felt informed every step of the way. You can see that she spends a tremendous amount of time planning and documenting everything. If only my son’s school teacher could share this level of detail...
Long story short, my son went from scoring Ds to Bs! And he has more confidence and a better foundation. If your child is struggling with math or confidence or both, call Gloria! With all of her expertise and the hours she puts in outside of sessions, she is worth every penny and more!

    Frequently asked questions

    1. Phone/Video Conversation

I begin each tutoring relationship by seeking to understand parents’ and students’ goals for academic and social-emotional skills. Then, I share more about who I am and how I can help meet their needs. If it’s a good fit, we’ll schedule a 1-hour intro session.

    2. Intro Session - Diagnostic + Debrief

The two-part intro session comprises of a diagnostic evaluation and debrief, and it is designed to achieve multiple objectives. In addition to improving math skills, I assess and document the student’s current levels through activities that don’t feel like quizzes. Then, I share this info with parents, provide my recommendations, and answer their questions about their child and the school system, incl. state standards.

    3. Action Planning + Documentation

I partner with the family to create an action plan that covers goals, skill targets, session length, type, and frequency, and other important members on the student’s team. I create and share a personalized Google Drive folder that houses lesson plans, student progress notes, resources, and more.

    4. Ongoing Partnership

I update the student’s folder after each session to maintain continuous, transparent communication about progress and next steps. As I learn more about the student’s interests, hobbies, and learning style, I incorporate them into my planning.

LMU - Math Teaching Credential (California)

Upon graduating from USC, I served as a high school mathematics teacher in Los Angeles. In my first year of teaching, my students broke our school’s records for math achievement on standardized tests - including a 90% pass rate for the CAHSEE math and an average 2.5 years of growth for my 140+ math students. I later served as an Operations Manager for Green Dot Public Schools, where I managed $3.1M in annual funds for the school nutrition programs for 22 schools.

For math and other academic subjects, I have worked with students in upper elementary grades and in all high school grades while teaching and tutoring in a professional capacity after college. Before earning my degrees, I also tutored while in high school and college.

I believe students of all ages and levels can benefit from individualized instruction from a qualified and dedicated tutor. My goal is to reach students earlier rather than later to ensure that, instead of falling behind, they are equipped with the confidence and skills to excel into the future.

*I have also taught and coached dance to children and adults ages 3 - 28. :)

    1. Find someone who will be your student’s cheerleader.

“Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” - TR

A strong tutor will build your student up, get to know them as an individual, and create empowering learning experiences for them.

    2. Decide whether you want the traditional tutoring approach or more.

In the traditional approach, students and tutors sit side-by-side with pencils and paper, reviewing textbook homework/test problems. The student mostly watches and listens to the tutor solving the problem. It’s a little boring, but hey, it’s simple for the tutor.

In contrast, using my Math x Motion approach, my students rarely sit still. We use colors, tools, art, music, and exercises to learn math. Of course, it requires an equal amount of time prepping as time spent with students, but the results are worth it. I am great with the traditional approach, but I can, and will, do more.

    3. Seek accountability measures.

If you are investing time and resources into a tutoring partnership, make sure that you feel comfortable and aligned with the tutor on how you will track progress and communicate.
