About this pro

As a former competitive swimmer, I have always had a passion for swimming, and I firmly believe in the importance of learning the fundamental skills it takes in order to be safe and have fun in the water. I have been teaching swim lessons for 5 years, primarily to children ages 3-15, but I also teach adult lessons. I mostly teach beginning levels, such as ARC levels 1-2, but I can also teach higher levels if need be. In addition to being a certified WSI, I am a certified lifeguard. During the summer, I teach several 30-45 minute classes a day for the city of San Gabriel.

I can drive to you, or meet at a designated location. I provide kickboards, buoys, toys, and other helpful lesson equipment.

One of my favorite aspects about teaching swimming lessons is to revel in the growth I see in my swimmers, both in their physical capabilities and self-confidence. It's truly rewarding to encounter children who learn to love swimming even if they started out with great apprehension or relunctance.

I am an adult with no swimming experience. I learnt regular freestyle in a group class @ Smith Park pool. Vanessa was super cool and she was always courteous while teaching the techniques. She always started the classes step by step to make sure that the students won't get overwhelmed. Within 10 classes, I was able to learn freestyle stroke, side breathing, front & back floating and a little bit of backstroke :-). I definitely recommend her as a swimming instructor.

Vanessa was always patient and kind to Ingrid. It took Ingrid a while to warm up to her and trust her. Vanessa was always prompt and worked hard to get her to swim....no easy task!!

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

When I meet a new student, I like to ask either them or their parents what their current level of experience is, as well as their age, so I can determine how I'll go about their first lesson. For instance, younger children often need more time to adjust to putting their face in the water and learning how to blow bubbles through their nose, whereas older kids tend to be more comfortable about going underwater and thus do not need as much time spent on that skill.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am WSI, lifeguard, and CPR certified.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

I offer 3 times:

$30 for a 30 minute lesson.

$40 for a 45 minute lesson.

$50 for a 60 minute lesson.

How did you get started teaching?

I started volunteering as an instructor's aid, and once I was old enough, I got my WSI certification and became an instructor myself.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with all types of students, ranging from ages 3-70+.
