About
Long before performing in front of a national audience every week on American Idol‘s ninth season as a top-ten finalist and appearing on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Today Show, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Didi Benami had spent years refining her craft as a vocalist and performer with top vocal coaches in Nashville and Los Angeles. After her experience on Idol, she felt compelled to step out of the spotlight for a while to continue to cultivate her vocal skills.
Didi has worked closely with world-renowned vocal coaches Ron Anderson, Roger Love, Liz Lewis, Dorian Holley, and Debra Byrd who have coached many top artists including Ariana Grande, Alicia Keys, Natasha Bedingfield, Toto, Billy Idol, Iggy Pop, Rob Thomas, LeAnn Rimes, Mary J. Blige and Ozzy Osbourne to name a few.
While in the studio recording “Terrified,” a song that gained huge popularity after Didi performed it on Idol, Grammy-winning producer Mikal Blue (Colbie Caillat, OneRepublic, Jason Mraz) was so impressed with how dramatically her voice had improved since he last worked with her four years prior, he asked her to become his main vocal coach for his current young artists in development.
Through her extensive studies, Didi has developed a wider, more powerful range and is excited to help others do the same. One of her main focuses is to teach proper technique to stop singers from damaging their vocal cords.
Didi‘s musical influences include legendary artists like The Beatles, Jimmy Ruffin, Marvin Gaye, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Mazzy Star, and contemporary singers such as Demi Lovato, Sara Bareilles, Sheryl Crow, and Ingrid Michaelson.
Didi’s outgoing and encouraging personality ensures that each lesson is not only educational but a whole lot of fun!
I get such joy out of seeing the singers I work with understand the concept that singing should be easy and effortless. I love watching them develop proper technique because it opens new doors for them vocally. So it feels effortless. So they can float effortlessly, and they won't hurt themselves. It's important to learn to sing properly so you won't burn out in four or five years and ruin your voice from squeezing or pinching your vocal cords together. That can come from improper technique.
I want you to be able to rely on your voice until you're 90, or however old you live until. That is possible, too.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Every student is different depending on their needs and goals. The first lesson always begins with an online assessment, and it's tailored to each student's specific goals. If the client is in Nashville or Los Angeles (while I am in LA), we can do an in-person consult if desired. *** That said, if you say that you are only willing to do in-person lessons in your submission application and aren't local to Nashville, you would have to be willing to come to Nashville to do your lessons. Otherwise, I am happy to work with you online!
