Frequently asked questions

I ascertain if my student is a beginner or has previously played. At this point I will establish what method book is appropriate to further technical development, and advise practice routines and exercises specific to their instrument to help them achieve the next level.

I have a Post Grad Diploma and a Performance Diploma in trombone performance from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. I have a Licentiate Diploma and an Associate Licentiate in trombone performance from Trinity College, London. I've performed in all of the major symphony orchestra's in South Africa as well as many miscellaneous ensembles ranging from big band to salsa band.

My asking price is $40 an hour, $30 for 45 minutes for younger students.

I started teaching in South Africa for community outreach projects, teaching students of all ages from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. From 2010 on I started teaching private students, and from 2015 I taught at multiple secondary schools as well as university bridging programs following the Trinity Guildhall practical music syllabus. I am a trombone specialist, but I teach tuba, trombone, trumpet and French horn in addition. I come from a family of musicians, many occupying or previously having occupied music lecturing positions at the major universities in Cape Town, South Africa. The vast majority of my family are professional French hornists, including my mother and father, and I have a brother who is a trumpeter.

I've worked with students ranging from age 7 to age 70, special needs children, specifically with partially deaf students and a child with autism. I've taught primary school, middle school and university students.

I recently went hiking in the Sierra Mountains with a family member. I started teaching my first local student recently which was fun.
