Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Ask student what there dance background is and then ask if the have any physical injuries or handicaps. I would then ask what the student was looking to get out of the lessons. From there I would format my class to the knowledge I received from them.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have trained in dance for 20 years and I have my Bachelors degree in Dance from Cal State Fullerton.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes my prices range depending on the level of dancer.
Beginner: 40
Intermidate: 50
Advanced: 70
If I am setting choreography on someone then the prices will be different.
Also if the lesson is more the 15 miles away there is an extra 10 dollar fee.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching at the age of 14 at a my local dance studio! From there I just grew a passion for teaching others to dance.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with children 2-18 and adults ages 19-55. I have also worked with hearing impared children and children with physical handicaps.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently worked at an elementary school where I was able to teach dance at and I had one srudent named Nate. Nate has MS and a bone disease where he can barely walk. I would always be in my dance room throughout the day and students knew if they needed to just come into the room then I would play music so they could just get there wiggles out. Nate was a regular at this. He did not let his handicap stop him from dancing! This memory is one of my favorite because one of my number one classroom rules is that I will always create a safe place for my students to be free to express themself.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you ask the teacher question about what style of dance they specialize in and how long they have been teaching because that is also important.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They should ask the teacher what style of dance they specialize in?
How many years have they taught?
If the student has a physical disability they should ask the teacher if they have ever worked with someone who has a disability similar to theirs?
