I am 44 and never learned to swim. I'm also a mother to a 2.5 year old who loves the water and has been swimming for over a year. I decided it was time I learned as well. When I found Sunsational online, I thought it was too good to be true. Private lessons and they come to you? No way! But, yes way! I was too excited and didn't give it a second thought before signing up. It has truly been one of the best gifts I could have ever given to myself. I've completed 10 of my 12 lessons and I'm extremely proud of my progress. I'm not winning any medals (like ever), but I'm comfortable in the water and feel I could actually be of help to my little one if the need were to ever arise. I couldn't have asked for a better instructor than Erica de la O Ortega. She is extremely patient and personable and helped alleviate any fears I had almost immediately. She. Is. AWESOME!

We have had such positive, quick results with our daughter learning how to swim in just 3 weeks! We were matched with Falon, who is absolutely incredible with our daughter!! We have some peace of mind with a pool in our backyard now, and confident our daughter is water safe at home now. We are excited to extend our lessons with Our instructor Falon again, and would highly recommend Sunsational for kids of any age!!

We were looking for a local instructor to come to our house to teach our 2 year old and two toddler friends some skills. We were matched with Mike within a few days and he took on our 12 lesson package with three 2 year olds, not an easy task. But he showed up on time every day and he was very patient. They all cried but after the 12 lessons they learned some valuable skills. My daughter is able to float on her back, roll from front to back and even swim to the wall and grab the edge. She is more confident in the pool now which makes me feel better having her around water. We were happy with the lessons and will probably use the same school next summer too! I was incredibly skeptical of the 12 lessons "learn to swim guarantee" but alas both my 5 year old and 3 year old, after just 12 lessons, can swim the length of our pool. They have zero prior water experience. None. And now they can flip onto their backs to take a break/rest and flip back over on their tummies when they are ready to swim on! It is amazing!! Much of their success we owe to our instructor Kailey. She is serious but gentle. When my kids' tears in the first couple of lessons were getting to me, she assured me that tears are normal and we could forge ahead -- if I was comfortable doing so. I believed her and I'm glad I did.

My son had been to multiple swim lessons throughout the years and nothing seemed to help his fear of water. Hiring Sunsational was amazing! One lesson was similar to an entire summer of lessons. My son was swimming by lesson 2!!!! We love Ellyn and my son cried after his last lesson as he didn't want it to end. I'm only sad I didn't reach out to them sooner!

How did you get started teaching?

In 2009, Sarah Sebe was on ap ath to get her master's degree in Education, until a craigslist ad for swim lessons plunged her into the deep end of entrepreneurship. Sarah founded Sunsational Swim School as the sole instructor traveling from house to house in Los Angeles. Quickly she learned that parents were frustrated with the lack of progress in typical group lessons and were thrilled to see their children learn to swim in just weeks with her private swim instruction. Word spread and soon Sarah was overwhelmed with student's and the following year she began hiring experienced swimming instructors and expanded to service more areas in Southern California. Today, Sunsational Swim School has grown to service home and community pools in over 40 different metro areas and has a team of 2000+ Sunsational Certified Swim Instructors coast-to-coast!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Hiring the right teacher can make all the difference. Before making your selection, check for the following:

1) Find a Swim Instructor who is CPR/First Aid certified. In case of an emergency, knowing these life-saving techniques can mean the difference between a tragedy and learning experience.

2) Has formal teaching experience. Not all great swimmers make great swim teachers. Teaching is a skill of its own. We recommend that your swim instructor has at least two or more years of formal teaching expeirence. This ensures that the instructor is confident, knowledgeable and will have worked with a variety of students, which will translate to a better learning experience for you.

3) Check your swim instructor is fully insured. Many independent swim instructors have no insurance coverage, which can leave you vulnerable to major liability costs if an incident occurs. All Sunsational swim instructors are fully covered under our multi-million dollar general liability insurance.

4) Experience to meet your specific needs. Are you training for a triathlon, or is it your first time entering the pool in years? Make sure the instructor is experienced teaching the age, swim level, and your specific needs.

5) Vetted and background checked. This is particularly important if your swim instructor is coming to your home. You want someone you can trust. Ask for references you can speak with if you can't obtain a formal background check. Each Sunsational Swim Instructor must pass our rigurous hiring process and clear a formal background check before being hired.
