Music is a language and an opportunity for personal expression. From tiny ones to adults, we all love it and want it to be a part of our lives. I tease about how much I love to torture my students, but really, we are just having fun. ;) Those who wish to perform have plenty of opportunities for that including our yearly spring recitals recently being held at the Artwork Network Gallery near downtown Denver, Colorado. I have been teaching near the University of Denver since 1977. Thank you! ... View Profile

I teach because I love to share the gift of music with others. I was headed to Julliard in High School. I decided I wanted to be a parent and teach. I didn't want the over whelming study of music to become a job and not my joy. I was taught the skills I need to teach but didn't continue my studies. So I lack a degree. I had certification but have not kept up with it. I have study much music on my own. I believe I can still give you the skills you need. I charge less then most teachers because of the lacking of a degree. I have taught for 13 years. Five previous to working a regular job for 26 years and now for another eight years since early ... What or who inspired you to start teaching?

Music enhances our lives in many ways. It is a language we all learn and the love we have for it endures for a lifetime. Once we learn it well, we share it - we sing to our babies, entertain others from the shower….or not, turn up the stereo with the windows down as we streak down the highway, hum quietly as we work, or pick up an instrument to help us express what is inside.

Tell us about your passion for teaching

For many years performing was my passion, but then I discovered children. Teaching was a challenge at first, but I found out quickly that these short little people can really be very entertaining! There was the 5 year old who assured me that she knew all about curtsying, but didn’t turn around to face the audience when she did. Then there was Ella Grace, who, at 4 years old, when asked where her piano books were, answered, “My mommy forgot them AGAIN. And I’m not going to help her ANY MORE. She’ll just have to learn to do that ALL BY HERSELF!” End of discussion. Another 5 year old asked for lessons, was told it was entirely her responsibility to practice and if she didn’t, the lessons would simply end. Thirteen years later we said good by as she headed off to Amherst. She came to our student recital this last spring just because.

The hugs, cards, gifts, arguments, tears, giggles. The right notes, wrong notes, from Beethoven to Elton John, music is a wonderful thing to share.

I recognize that this is a highly competitive field, but we also need people who love music in the audiences. As long as a student is enjoying the piano, I’m happy to share what I’ve learned over the years.
