Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, we talk about their experience, goals and dreams. We work on breathing of they need it, and apply some great techniques that make them feel stronger right off the bat. I explain every exercise, exactly what it is for and how to do it well. Everything is individualized for the student's needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
3 Degrees:
*Theater
*Voice
*Music Education
* Many years of my own personal lessons in voice and piano.
*Professional work experience as a singer and as an actress.
*Years of teaching lessons and directing choirs.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Standard price is $70/hr, one lesson per week. I charge by the month.
Beginners start with half hour lessons at $140/mo.
How did you get started teaching?
After a few years of working on the Dinner Theater Circuit, I decided I would like to stay in one place and I began to teach. I found a passion for it akin to the passion I have for music and theater. Sharing what I know as we all continue to grow has been the best experience of my life.
What types of students have you worked with?
VOICE: Beginning to Advanced
Some are in choirs and preparing auditions, some are in theater productions, some sing in bands, and others just for their own enrichment.
High School Students
Middle School Students
College students
Working Adults

Professionals in performance
PIANO: Beginning and intermediate, early advanced

Teens
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I directed the Windsor Gardens Chorus for 6 years before COVID hit. I had such a good time with them. The choir grew from a few to a resounding choir of 48.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Please be sure your teacher has credentials. Anyone can "hang a sign" and start teaching but they may not know what they are doing. Technique in any field is important. With voice, you can truly harm it if you don't know protective techniques. In playing the piano, your musicality and ability to play well will be hindered if you don't know fingerings and ways to move your body and hands that keep you relaxed and nimble.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why would you like to do this? Do you have specific goals or is this a fun thing you've always wanted to try? Share this with me!
We all need time to practice the new things we've been taught so we can grow. Please ask yourself:
Are you ready for at least 6 months of devoting time to this endeavor? A few weeks is barely scratching the surface. Any skill takes time and commitment.
Are you prepared to be committed to practicing between lessons? If you don't have time for it, you won't get very far. So let's do this!
As a parent, are you ready to set required practicing goals for your child and ensure that it happens? It's an excellent way for them to learn time management and self discipline, but they need help and guidance at home to learn these things. Help them shine!
If you have a young child, are you ready to attend their lessons and practice sessions to help them along? It's a great bonding time and fun for you as well!
