Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We offer every new family a meet and greet with the owner of the school, a free introductory lesson and a question and answer session afterwards. We pride ourselves on being upfront with costs and promise to exceed the expectations of families who choose us!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Over 15 years experience in martial arts training, professional and experienced head referee in Olympic sparring, 12 years of independent school ownership.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
We have a monthly pricing system with no contracts and we DO have family rates!!
How did you get started teaching?
I've been teaching physical fitness since 1985 when aerobics was popular. I got into martial arts in my thirties and LOVED it! I opened my own school in 2006 and have been teaching ever since. My patience and understanding in addition to my enthusiasm make my teaching skills shine!
What types of students have you worked with?
The youngest student I have taught was 2 and a half years old, although I recommend kids wait until 4 years old. My oldest student was in his 70's. I have taught deaf students, students with physical and mental disabilities, students with cerebral palsy, ADD, ADHD, and more. Every student deserves their own assessment so that I can determine the best way to teach each individual student.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently participated in Colorado Springs School District 11's para-professional conference as a speaker. I loved the opportunity to give back to the hard-working staff at the D11 schools! I spent 6 hours donating my time to the wonderful support staff of our local D11 schools and can't wait to do it again next year!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
The advice I would give to anyone looking for a martial arts school is to walk into the place. If you feel welcome and feel like you belong and the staff and other family members feel like people you trust then give it a try. You'll know right away if a school will fit your needs.
