I provide books and original exercises for my students to help develop their skills. My students receive a thorough knowledge of music theory practices. They work in a variety of books so that their skills in sight reading, counting, and dexterity are firmly and quickly established. At a certain point in their study, I introduce a second instrument such as recorder or flute which help with fingering and sight reading. Also, my students know that I love and appreciate the study of music and hope they will too.

    Frequently asked questions

I usually introduce them to the keyboard and how it's set up, so they can learn the names of the keys. Then we talk about how our finger are numbered before learning to play on the keys, and we talk about our best hand and finger positions for playing the keys.  I give them simple exercises to start their fingers to work independently.  We work with hands separate before we put them together.  I believe my students should first become familiar with moving their fingers on the instrument easily and confidently before they get into the sight reading aspects of playing the instrument.  There are many things to learn when studying the piano.  We try to learn a few things first to avoid confusion and frustration so that the student will enjoy what they are learning and want to continue their lessons.
