My approach for a beginning student is to find the songs that they really want to play and to teach them how to play these songs in the easiest possible way.

I tailor the lessons to individual student. It's important to come up with a lesson plan and write it down so that progress can be gauged. I believe the ability to read music is a huge advantage to any musician. Theory is just as important because if a musician learns the "whys" of music, it will make the "hows" that much easier. Technique is also a big focus. I have taught over 200 students in my career and have a strong knowledge of many styles as well as theory. I make the lessons fun and un-intimidating.
