Trained in classical and jazz, I teach piano, guitar, and ukulele, as well as music theory and composition. I value proper technique, but also encourage the participation of imagination through specific imagery exercises, because that's where I believe the best music comes from. Having gone through extensive training myself, I've taught all ages for eight years, currently teaching over online platforms using a 2-camera HD broadcasting system, and have 18 students on my roster, looking for more. In addition to live lessons, I regularly email visual handouts with more detailed explanations, to help students better connect with the material, and ... View Profile

My teaching approach: I am a guitarist, singer songwriter, and teacher. For 30 years I have helped adults and kids have fun with the guitar! I believe you can learn guitar by learning the style you are most interested in, given basics. I teach theory and sight reading BUT I believe you need to work on technique, position, and just plain get used to using fingers as well. I've taught adults and children alike. I would like to help you start having fun with the guitar today! My influences are: great groups...great song writers....and expressive guitarists. Too long a list My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher's studio Guitar Lessons ... View Profile

First & foremost I start by getting to know what genres of music my students prefer & what instruments they are accustomed to playing in order for me to teach accordingly. I use a variety of techniques, theory, & live performance trainings in my lessons. I always want my students to feel comfortable with their musical studies & concentrate on what is most familiar for them to create an overall fun experience.

Schramm's Guitar Shop

As someone who has been playing and performing guitar for over 8 years, I understand the significance of a good guitar teacher. Having someone equally or even more committed to bettering your performance is very important, and I bring that level of committment to each and every person that I teach. I ensure that my students have a complete understanding of the concepts that they learned by the end of each lesson. I first began teaching two years ago with younger, more impatient students aged K-8, which is where I learned that patience, cooperation, and attention to detail are key to teaching. I promise to give all of my students these qualiti ... View Profile

Frequently asked questions

How much do guitar lessons cost?

The average cost for guitar lessons is $40 per hour. Available for all ages and all skill levels of guitar playing, the pricing of individual or group guitar lessons can start as low as $20/hour. Teachers charge based on their location, years of teaching, levels of knowledge and expertise, and travel time (if applicable). Lessons can last from half an hour to a full hour, and are priced accordingly.

How long does it take to learn guitar?

If you just want to learn a few chords to strum along to some songs, then learning to play the guitar really isn't that hard for most people. Many students are able to learn a few chords and get a decent strumming pattern going after a few weeks. If you've had prior experience playing an instrument, you can expect to pick it up after just a few lessons.

Should I take guitar lessons online or in person lessons?

Private in person guitar lessons with a skilled instructor that is focused on you, your interests, and your progress is the most sought after experience and hard to replicate online. Plus, you tend to learn faster in person. On the other hand, online guitar lessons are quickly becoming popular. The selection of teachers is not limited to those in your geographical area and you can communicate via video in real time with your teacher in the comfort of your home. When filling out your request on Lessons.com, we recommend you select both online and local options, then compare your options and see what works best for you.

How old should children be before starting guitar lessons?

A child as young as 4 can begin to learn if they are really motivated and have a patient, creative, and devoted teacher. However, we've found almost all kids under six are too young to benefit from formal guitar lessons, as they require dexterity and levels of concentration children their age can't provide. That being said, lessons do not need to be formal right off the bat, and can just provide a fun introduction. Also, your child may benefit from using a ukulele to start, as it's smaller and easier to learn, but very similar instrument.
