I cut my musical chops at the famed Musicians Institute in Hollywood California. I have 20 years of playing, teaching, recording, and performance experience. I and have been fortunate enough to tour the country from coast to coast and showcase my skills for industry giants such as Ahmet Ertegun, Debbie Harry, Obie O'Brien Steve Van Zant, and Jon Bon Jovi.  Iʼve shared the stage with the likes of Slash, Kid Rock, Cypress Hill, and The Deftones.  Through these experiences Iʼve learned the art of preparation, knowledge, and execution of both live and studio performances. ... Helping people learn the fundamentals of guitar playing and music is both an amazing and invaluable experience. We will not only go over how to play the guitar but also music theory and how to write your own songs! I try to keep my lessons both fun and engaging as they are not just about drills and lesson plans but instead are catered to the individual student and what they want to learn. I teach all ages as it is never too late to pickup a guitar and start playing! I also re ... View Profile

Learning guitar is one of the best things I've ever done and sharing that experience with others is just pure fun for me. I've been teaching for several years and I'd love to do it as much as possible.  My teaching theory revolves around SONGS picked out by the student and making sure they stay engaged and have FUN. The most important thing about learning guitar is that the student is still playing a year from now, not that they know every scale and chord in existence.  So if you want to become a musician quickly and learn to play your favorite songs I would love to be your teacher! ... Our staff strives, through our individual lessons, ensembles, and classroom instruction, to provide our students with a holistic approach to music. We believe that, in order to make great music, students must not only master the technical aspects of their instrument, but also learn to listen and interpret. We encourage students to play together, and listen to one another as they shape their sound as a group. We help students to understand the historical and cultural backdrop that influenced the genre of music in which they are interested. I have been so fortunate to be involved in the music industry for the past 28 years. I spent the majority of the 2000's touring in a rock band and am very grateful for that experience. I have been teaching since 1995 and love to share my knowledge with students. I am equally comfortable teaching either guitar/music theory or audio production as they have been my two focuses since I began my journey in music at age 14. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals in music and sharing everything I have learned over the course of my journey. ... View Profile

My teaching approach: Each student learns at a different pace, therefore every lesson is tailored to the students’ unique needs. My teaching approach: To help the student develop the ability to perform, compose, improvise, enjoy and understand music. I will tailor the lessons to the student’s desired style/interests but will also introduce them to other styles/genres. A strong foundation in the basics (good technique, some reading skills, basic theory, and song form) is necessary for a student of any level. This quickens the learning process and gives the student the ability to interact and communicate with other musicians as well as learn songs on their own. These skills would be worked on. My teaching approach: I want to equip all of my students with the necessary skills to perform. This means the student will learn theory, sight reading skills, scales, improvisation skills, keys, they will learn how to use their ears, build a repertoire of music... The student can choose any genre to explore, but they will learn the material thoroughly. It is not good enough to just learn how to play a song from TAB. If you want to be a better player, you have to understand music. I try to do all of this while making the lessons fun. We crack a lot of jokes, but then spend time on some mind twisting material. Frequently asked questions

How much do guitar lessons cost?

The average cost for guitar lessons is $40 per hour. Available for all ages and all skill levels of guitar playing, the pricing of individual or group guitar lessons can start as low as $20/hour. Teachers charge based on their location, years of teaching, levels of knowledge and expertise, and travel time (if applicable). Lessons can last from half an hour to a full hour, and are priced accordingly.

How long does it take to learn guitar?

If you just want to learn a few chords to strum along to some songs, then learning to play the guitar really isn't that hard for most people. Many students are able to learn a few chords and get a decent strumming pattern going after a few weeks. If you've had prior experience playing an instrument, you can expect to pick it up after just a few lessons.

Should I take guitar lessons online or in person lessons?

Private in person guitar lessons with a skilled instructor that is focused on you, your interests, and your progress is the most sought after experience and hard to replicate online. Plus, you tend to learn faster in person. On the other hand, online guitar lessons are quickly becoming popular. The selection of teachers is not limited to those in your geographical area and you can communicate via video in real time with your teacher in the comfort of your home. When filling out your request on Lessons.com, we recommend you select both online and local options, then compare your options and see what works best for you.

How old should children be before starting guitar lessons?

A child as young as 4 can begin to learn if they are really motivated and have a patient, creative, and devoted teacher. However, we've found almost all kids under six are too young to benefit from formal guitar lessons, as they require dexterity and levels of concentration children their age can't provide. That being said, lessons do not need to be formal right off the bat, and can just provide a fun introduction. Also, your child may benefit from using a ukulele to start, as it's smaller and easier to learn, but very similar instrument.
