Welcome to my lessons page! Trained in classical and jazz, I teach piano and guitar, as well as music theory and composition. I value proper technique, but also encourage musical exercises that require the participation of imagination, because that is where I believe the best music comes from. I've played music for over twenty-two years, classically trained on piano at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire, and studied Jazz Piano at Metropolitan State University of Denver. I played guitar for 15 years, having played in blues, rock, and flamenco groups, and also studied jazz on the instrument. I've taught ages 3-70 for eight years, currently te ... View Profile

IMPORTANT:All lessons are now available online using the Zoom meeting app, and Venmo or personal check for fee payment. Both apps are free and easy to install and use. You’ll need a tablet or a laptop with a camera and audio capability (which almost all of them have). Cell phones aren’t recommended because of their small screens.  Lessons will be at their usual times or when we agree to schedule them. I’ll send you login information beforehand that includes a link to the session, and we’ll be on our way. It’s true that extracurriculars like music may be seen as a low priority but in these potentially dangero ... View Profile

Guitar For Everyone!

Guitar For Everyone!

I am a teacher first and a guitar player second. Because I have spent my career as an educator, I feel that I know how to reach students-especially beginning students-where they are. Questions are powerful tools and I use them as a means by which to gauge what my students know, and what they want to learn. I ALWAYS start my first lesson with a student with this question: How can I help you out? It's an open-ended question that gives the student the power to explain what specifically they are trying to learn. This sets the expecations up front so the student is always in the driver's seat with their learning!  Also, because I am a teacher ... View Profile

I feel that my passion for the guitar and music as a whole is something I want to translate to young and aspiring players; who are yet to to find the same passion and need a little bit of guidance. I enjoy exploring what can be done on my chosen instrument, and experimenting with different musical elements to make my playing stand out.  Expression is another large factor in my playing. Regardless of what genre or style I am playing, I always play with as much emotion as I can. My reason for this is because if music is not played with emotions, it is a lost cause. Frequently asked questions

How much do guitar lessons cost?

The average cost for guitar lessons is $40 per hour. Available for all ages and all skill levels of guitar playing, the pricing of individual or group guitar lessons can start as low as $20/hour. Teachers charge based on their location, years of teaching, levels of knowledge and expertise, and travel time (if applicable). Lessons can last from half an hour to a full hour, and are priced accordingly.

How long does it take to learn guitar?

If you just want to learn a few chords to strum along to some songs, then learning to play the guitar really isn't that hard for most people. Many students are able to learn a few chords and get a decent strumming pattern going after a few weeks. If you've had prior experience playing an instrument, you can expect to pick it up after just a few lessons.

Should I take guitar lessons online or in person lessons?

Private in person guitar lessons with a skilled instructor that is focused on you, your interests, and your progress is the most sought after experience and hard to replicate online. Plus, you tend to learn faster in person. On the other hand, online guitar lessons are quickly becoming popular. The selection of teachers is not limited to those in your geographical area and you can communicate via video in real time with your teacher in the comfort of your home. When filling out your request on Lessons.com, we recommend you select both online and local options, then compare your options and see what works best for you.

How old should children be before starting guitar lessons?

A child as young as 4 can begin to learn if they are really motivated and have a patient, creative, and devoted teacher. However, we've found almost all kids under six are too young to benefit from formal guitar lessons, as they require dexterity and levels of concentration children their age can't provide. That being said, lessons do not need to be formal right off the bat, and can just provide a fun introduction. Also, your child may benefit from using a ukulele to start, as it's smaller and easier to learn, but very similar instrument.
